Hi all, is there anyone who successfully hooked up a multi-CD changer on a '05 BMW X3? I'm a do-it-yourself kind of guy and seriously considering upgrading from a single CD player to a 6 CD type. I guess all I need to know for now is the exact location of the pre-wiring connection and how to get to it.

Thanks in advance,

I haven't done the CD changer install yet, but it's on my list of projects to do. Just did the alarm, chrome exhaust tips, and Xpel headlight protection kit installs last weekend.

When you install the 6 CD changer, do you lose the mp3/wma capability?

If yes, then does it make sense? One can put up to 10 CDs into one in wma format, without installing anything new.

Of course it's different if your new changer also can read mp3s and wmas. Then you have 6 X 10 CDs :) .

You shouldn't lose the mp3/wma capability of the in-dash CD player when you install the 6 CD changer because the I-Bus will see it as two distinctive components (you can toggle between the in-dash CD player and the changer). But for the price of the OEM changer (or less), you should look into the Alpine S634 changer, which has mp3 capability. Of course, you will need an aftermarket adapter such as Soundgate or Blitzsafe to make the Alpine work with your X3.

Thanks for these very informative links. I'll give it a shot this weekend and let you guys know what happens.
