My brother gave me a ring and said he heard that the new M5 was unveiled today at las vegas and has a base MSRP of $84,000.

Anyone else with their ear to the ground hear about this?

Also found a new (to me) site I'll pass along
http://www.bmw.com/generic/com/en/products/highlights/m5/phase_2/main.html

Warning - watch your volume, the site made me jump when the audio started.

Also, here's a few pictures of the competition.

My guess was a bit over $90k. That's not a bad price if it's correct.

One of the auto mags did a comparison of the E55 AMG and the M5 and their guess was $82,000 since BMW's are usually lower than MB and the E55 AMG is $84,000+. $84,000 or $82,000, doesn't matter, I'm getting wood thinking about it.

I personally like the 4-door M5.
The M6 has those big coupe doors like my brothers z28 camaro, which I never liked much.

A V10, 507HP car that is pretty much the same dimensions as my mom's 545i. Yeah, I'm sold.

Yes, I personally prefer the M5's looks from the M6... The M6 really doesn't look any different if you get it in black or solid grey/silver. The M5 has a better stance being a seden, and im not sure the m6 will be any lighter....

With that manual, and V10 it will probably be the best buy for that price range.

according to the video I just saw/posted.....the new M5 with the V10 is retailing for 60k pounds in Britian

without looking up the exchange rate....that sounds like $120k or more US dollars

Close. If they do an exact conversion (instead of giving the US market a better deal) 60K GBP is about 105,393.57 USD. But to stay in direct competition with Mercedes E55AMG price range, they will have to knock off a bit over here i guess.

Like I said, the narrartor at the Las Vegas Auto show said 'around' $84K, but $105 is a bit wide to still be 'around' 84K.

To boot, you can't go only by the exchange rate. If you did, my car would cost $65K. When it is only about 37K GBP, configured in the UK. The actual US price was about $45K. My guess is that the M5 will be sub $100K, since the M6 is supposed to be around $100K. Also, as E60orBust wrote, they do have to compete with Mercedes. You'll be lucky if you can actually order one of these suckers to begin with!! Not to mention the ~$2000 a month you'll be paying after you somehow get one of these rare beauties. I'll be very jealous and in line for a ride!!!

Comfort access? That's the 'insert key and push button' stuff from the 745i and new E90? What fun is that? I wanna turn that key!

Now do you have a list of what will be standard? hehehehe, This is arguable the perfect car.

Bear in mind that the £62k price includes sales tax, delivery, registration and road tax, so is not comparable to the $84k. The price most comparable with the $84k US base price is:

£62,000 - 700 delivery - 170 first year's road tax - 115 registration/plates, -14.98% sales tax =

£51,900

Multiplied by last week's FX rate gives $89.3k. Of course, multiplied by the FX rate three months ago that's $101k.

Excessive dough in my opinion for any car.:fruit: Although fun to drive. If you like it buy it, that is good.

*bump*
anyone know if the M5 (When it reaches US market) will have the new nightvision option that is debuting on the new 7-series?

That would be sweet, who needs foglights then?
