I was wondering if someone can tell me all the part numbers or at least point me in the right direction. I would like to either replace all the chrome trim with black trim or paint the existing one. I am talking about all the chrome on the car except for the grille.

Is painting a good idea if I cannot find the replacement trim or if the cost of new trim is way too much?

Don't know too much about your questions, but I do know that it would look tight on your seven since it black. I have the black trim on my car and it looks good to me since I'm not into flashy chrome. Just my opinion. If the parts are not available or too expensive I don't see any problem painting them.

I know. A coworker just bought a 745i with sport package and it is all black, no chrome pieces. Looks really cool.
I wanted to do mine all black for a while now, but this has just speeded up my decision. I already have a quote for the paint job, but was wondering how much the new trim would be. However I realized today that it would have to be painted anyway as it comes only primed.

Then it sounds like you are better off using your own trim. If the trim that you have to buy is primed, you will probably get a better adhesion to your stock trim, as all it should take is very lightly scuffing (not sanding, a green 3m scuff pad should do the job.) the shine off the trim for the paint to stick. Then you could add a few coats of clear. :dunno: Sorry for the do-it-yourself explanation. :)

Hi Triple Sissy - what was your end solution to this? Did you paint your chrome trim black, and if so, how did it come out?

i wanted to do the same, but wanted to see if anyone out there has done it yet...

thx,
dmoe

Yes, ended up giving it to my mod guy and he took the trim off the car, sanded it down and painted black. Looks awesome!

I removed and painted my kidney w/ a Rustoleum flat black paint and it came out good. Roughed up the chrome w/ some 3M pads, cleaned w/ paint thinner, then air dryed in the sun. i'm dying to do the bumper, door, and window trim, just scared to break/bend something while removing it. Any tips for easy removal?

I plan on getting them powder coated. For all pcs about $300.

Any good instructions on removal?

For the front and rear bumper trim pieces I used a wide and smooth flathead screwdriver on the top side of the bumper where license plates are. I just lightly pushed it inside then lifted upwards....turning the flathead makes marks. After you lift hard enough and pop the first clip, all the others will come easily, just walk your hand across as you to to make sure you don't accidentally bend/break the trim. Once you've walked the trim off to the last tab where the tire is, it'll just pull straight out. The side trim I was able to remove by starting at the bottom on the rear window, and pulling directly away from the car. The tabs will probably break, but that's ok. Once you get between the passenger and drivers door, that's when you need to slow down. Around the area where the windshield is, I think I slides off like a sleeve, so don't pull away from the car....pull it at the same angle as the windshield going slightly up and rearward.

Do your grill too! I just got mine done by a friend, he suggested just doing the outline of the grill black, he left the inside stripes chrome just to be unique, it looks real nice and it isn't a lot of work

I just need to do the window trim on my black 745i. Its chrome, everything else is already black besides the grill. Havent decided on the grill yet. i was thinking of just painting the trim while still on the car. Just tape everything off really good. Im going to buy OEM BMW paint. I have clear coat already from other projects.
