Converted 525 or 540...there never was an E39 M5 touring.

It's a poser.

There were rumours a few years back about a possble E39 M5 Touring, but it never happened.

These shots were posted on Roadfly a few years back. I remember the Georgia plates. IIRC, it did have an S62 engine transplanted.

I recall reading about this blue conversion as well. I thought it did have the S62, but I'm not sure.

There is at least one real E39 M5 touring. It was custom built for a high ranking BMW exec in Germany. It is titanium silver and debadged. Gustov at the M5board site took a picture of it when he visited the mother ship a while back.

this was built by a bmw tech at a dealership in georgia, it is a full m5 drivetrain conversion on a 540. do a search on www.m5board.com and you'll find a bunch of photos.

They have made 2 prior M5 Tourings and they're done with the new one. They just haven't been stateside before. I disagree with Bruce, this M5 Touring looks real

Mike's right. That car was built by the tech that used to service my E39 M5 in Atlanta (Decatur), GA. Tim the Tech did an unbelievable job transferring the entire E39 M5 drivetrain from a salvage into the E39 Touring chassis. Even had the Luxury interior in Caramel to boot. Absolutely flawless workmanship. Look at the rear bumper--there's no stock part that integrates the M5 lower diffuser with a bumper top half that accepts a liftgate. Amazing. One incredible labor of love!

FWIW, the only other E39 M5 Touring that I've heard and seen photos of was built for the M-boss himself in Munich. TiSi, IIRC.
