Is it a 2007 model to be available in Fall of 2006; or is it a 2008 model......

But most likely it will come out late in calendar year 2007 as a 2008 model. Best info is that there will be a 2006 model E46 M3, followed by a period of approximately 1 year without an M3 then the E90 M3.
Of course, figure on the first year of the new car, for the prices to be well above MSRP. And last time, we looked at $5K - $20K OVER MSRP to get one for almost a year.

I asked my dealer about E90 M3 price gouging (and E90 in general) and he said they won't sell a car for over MSRP. "A pig gets fat but a hog gets slaughtered". We'll see about that I guess.

Yeah, yeah. But when the car is on the lot and 5 people want it, it will be a seller's market. :)
But in these days, it ia harder for a dealer to continue to sell at above MSRP as other dealers in the county sell at MSRP.
I sold 3 cars (plus my own) for my sales person by posting the availability of allocations at MSRP on RF. Sold them in about 1 hour. :) All were Performance Center deliceries, so no in person contact between seller and buyer. But 3 dealers lost sales due to gouging. :)

How are you all doing? I was working at a BMW University event that was held privately in New Jersey. Yes NJ of all places. But anyway, I spoke to a BMW vehicle coordinator there and he said that the new BMW M3 should be released by Fall of '05. I don't remember hearing tha as an accurate time so take it as a grain of salt if you wish.
Anyway the event was amazing, they were racing the new 3 series on a course setup and man these new 3 series are amazing! Unfortunately, no pics :tsk:

A little surprising because I do remember seeing $15K over MSRP in California when the e46 M came out, but my dealership in Arizona (an excellent one btw), has told me that if you put down a $500 deposit you get slotted to buy the e90 M3 at "full MSRP" and not a penny less, but not a penny more. They will go down the wait list in order of when the deposits came in and you can choose your colors and options for the upcoming allocated cars.

Oh yeah, and I asked him if there were different waiting lists for the Coupe, Convertible and (possibly) the Sedan M3......He looked at me, smiled and said, "cart before the horse my friend." I just smiled back...."yes, but that would be one hot 4 door cart !"
Anyone hearing about the return of the sedan M3?

Yeap, he may do that, since he has your money for about 2 years. :)
And guess what, if he can get it, a few people may sneak into the list if they are willin gto pay a premium. But if you want one of the first ones, then that is the way to do it.
But then again, lately BMW has been holding back a bit on some desireable things, so a very early one might not be the way to go.

Unless they've finalized on using the old M5 engine?

Are you referring to things like the Competition Package which seem to emerge 3 or 4 years into the model iteration? I do agree that some of the interesting options and packages (e.g. the 330 Performance Package) only come out towards the end of the lifecycle, I guess to re-invigorate sales, etc.
Well the lease on my car is up in April 2006, so I will be trading that puppie for a E46 M3 Competition Package on ED if available. I will lease that car too and after 3 years I can make a decision if I want to keep it or lease the E90 M3... which will be in 2009...

When we met the guys for the new 3 series tour, they seemed to say the new e46 M3 won't be available until Spriong 06. I doubt it will be in Fall 05.

Has anyone gotten on a actual waiting list for the new E90 M3 or is everything right know just pure speculation? Also if you are on a waiting list what kind of ballpark MSRP were you given?

Dealers will take deposits to get on a waiting list at this time.
They have NO idea of the MSRP at this time, so you will either get a WAG (wild a88ed guess) or a price based on what the MSRP turns out to be, is MSRP or MSRP + X.
