I have just bought an ipod to go with my 120i.
Does anyone know the best way to connect it? (and with what?)

There's a headphone jack under the center console armrest (the top part not the main part) - you just need an audio cable with a 3.5 inch headphone jack on each end - one for your iPod and one for the BMW... I've got iDrive on mine so I access the iPod by selecting Entertainment > FM (scroll through) > AM > CD > Aux.
It's pretty quiet though. You'll need to turn your iPod volume up to the max.

With the Ipod attached to the centre armrest connection, does one get the song title etc on the screen ?(Idrive model?. Can the music tracks be controlled from the steering wheel?

No, all the AUX connection does is give you an analog connection. You'll have to operate your iPod using its own controls.
True iPod support for the 1-series is a nightmare at the moment. I really can't believe Dension or BMW can't get off their butts and create a solution that uses radio controls (steering wheel) and uses the radio display for ID3 tags.
AFAIK Dension has 1-series support "on the R&D roadmap". Last time I asked (February) support was promised "this summer" (2005). Well summer isn't officially over, but I'm not holding my breath.
I did read on the BMW German site that 1-series iPod integration is now available (since Aug 1). Unfortunately I can't find any dealer in Holland that knows about this. Some of them even have never heard of iPods. The search continues........

Top output of Ipod is for headphones only and is inferior to the line input from the bottom connector.
you can purchase a Belkin cable which can charge and also do the line in at the same time. If you have an Ipod dock at home you can compare sounds from the line out in the dock and the headphone socket, clear difference to me.

I have bought this...

And I am very happy with it. Fits the 120d with audio input under armrest and works great.

Any news on a fully intergrated solution using the onboard stereo's screen to see the title playing and to control the iPod NANO from the steering wheel?
