Took my car out for a run up in the socal mountains and came back and noticed this cut in my passenger rear tire. These are original Continentals with about 18K miles on them. Is this cut here a reason to chuck these tires? It seems to be keeping the pressure steady.

I'm no expert and without looking at the actual tire it just a guess, but it looks okay to me just keep an eye on it and check your air pressure often.

The tires look about a couple thousand miles from needing to be replaced. So maybe you can get by until then.

I would carefully spread the slit and see how deep it goes. If it ends i nrubber, no big deal. It you can see belts, replace it.

Yep, Like Terry said, if you can see any cords or strands of the belts the tire needs to be replaced. (I hear the Michelin PS2's are awesome...) If the bottom of the cut ends in rubber, you should be able to use the tire until the tread is gone.
