Personally, I think they're nice tires for the price. They perform reasonably well, and offer pretty good turn-in response due to the super stiff sidewalls. Negative point is that when they get worn, they will make a heck of a lot of noise. Oh and they like to tramline quite a bit.
Would I get them again? Maybe. I think I'd rather try some other tire next time around but I'm not excluding them from my list of choices.
I had 18" sizes of those BTW...

I have 16" es100's on my e30. I second what doeboy says, except I haven't gotten to the point yet where they get real loud.
They're also great in the wet, until it falls below about 40 ior 45 degrees. Then they can become frightening.

avs sport. these tires should suit you just fine. No there isnt another brand of tire that can match the avs. i drive in the pouring rain at around 90 with no loss of traction. driver

Shows the AVS Sport to be a marginal tire when compared to truely max performance tires.

Based on the original poster's requirements, IMHO the AVS ES100's seem to be ok (this is coming from a noob). A marginal tire compared to others in the test? The results show the Yokos to be no more than a half point behind the others in all categories where it wasn't the outright winner.
As for the track ET, the Yokos were .88 seconds slower than the fastest tire (Kumho). This may be a huge difference to a racer :) but to someone who visits a track maybe twice a year, is it that much of a disadvantage?
My ES 100's are pretty worn after one HPDE and 10k - if the others in this test had more wear that the Yokos after the track session - that's pretty bad.

FWIW... my ES100s lasted about 22K miles with 8 HPDEs.... :eeps:

Doe,
My car weighs 2 tons - wonder if that has a lot to do with the wear or that I was a total noob in D run and trashed my tires?

Possibly... a heavier car would probably be harder on a particular tire in all situations regardless of your driving... makes sense I guess... I have no experience with a car the size of an E39 with those tires.... but thought I'd throw out that info anyway as it pertained to me and my experiences... :)

-Mark Or you had the tire pressure way to low or way to high.

I drove up to Willow at 36psi all around, and adjusted them hot - back down to 36 from 48 on the drivers side and 44 on the other side. Y'all think 36 is ok for the track? For everyday driving, I keep em at 34.

And that is on a very short track.
Actually the post I was refering to is no longer on teh board. :) A guy was spamming the boards claiming the AVS SPort had the best traction of ANY tire out there.

These are the noisiest tires bar none, the car seems to sound like a tractor when it comes to a stop. I have 13,000 miles on them. They also tram line like crazy, I'd say to the point where it is dangerous, do not take one hand off the wheel to pick up anything (a bit of an exaggeration, but just about). I can't wait to get new tires.

This tire is the highest performance street tire available in 205/60R15 IMO . Yes, it has its downsides for noise and wear, but if I had to choose to take any tire in this size on the track at all, it would be the ES100.

I have them on my 2002 330i. Since I do not track the car these tires are just bad for street use. No tire should tram line this much. Maybe mine are an exception. :dunno:

Mine also tramline a lot, and have actually scared me a couple of times when coming to a quick stop on very uneven pavement. This never happened with my stock Michelin Pilot HX MXMs, but those were grand touring tires rather than performance tires, and didn't have quite the quick turn in that the ES100s have. Can't compare the Michelins to the ES100s on the track since I never got to track with them, but just from the response on the street I'm sure the ES100s are much better on the track.
Mine are still pretty new (prolly around 1.5K miles on 'em) and have not yet gotten to the point where the noise is objectionable (just turn the volume up on the music  ).

Just realized I'll never get close to 15k out them.
