I am ready to buy the 2005 645 in US, but don't think the interior trim is up to an 85K car. Fit is ok butjust not lux enugh. I understand new 2006 will be 650 model. Does anyone know how to find out if interior wll be uplifted and/or if tail light tim will be altered or possiby wheel selection? I don't want to get a 645 and then have an outdated "look" within three months. Any suggestions?

No change for 650 on the interior leather or rear tail light. Possible new wheels selection for sports pkg.
If you don't like the 650 leather, then you need to wait for the M6.
hope this helps,

Thanks for that info, very helpful. One more thing though, new engine is pretty strong. Gives 750 0-60 in 5.8. Will the amped horespower make waiting to Fall worth it? It' a better engine no dought about it. What would you do?

Tough call..... :( The Engine is more of a marketing move more than anything else. Anyone who thinks the 0.4 Litre will give the car anything significant/noticeble boost in power is dillutional IMO. :eeps:
It your call.... here is what I would do:
1) If I need the car now and cannot wait.
2) If I can get a deal, ANY DEAL (Noticed you are in CA, and its summer).
3) If I can get a car that has options I want.
4) If the 1 year in model year does not bother me.
If I answer more than 2 yes on the above, i'd get the car now; and if I answer 2 yes from the above I'd flip a coin :D
So what is your call?? :dunno:

With all due respect Bee... we are talking about a difference of 35 Horses... that's a really significant jump. In addition to this, there's the refinement... the increase in efficiency... the increase in smoothness... then there's the resale value (I would HATE to be a guy trying to unload a 645 in 2-3 years)... :tsk:
For the most part, I agree with your advice... but the context... IMHO... needed a little adjustment.
Did you already order a 650?
Are dealers taking orders?

Not yet, two weeks is the best guess. I'm dead set on a 650, so it's a bit irrelevant.
Minimal change, 650 designation, not 100% sure on the keyless start.

I was quoted (7-16-05) for 650 conv. @ 78,800 base msrp vs 645cic @ $76,900 usd. Net difference of $1,900 usd. Still a 'couple' weeks away from being able to place an order even though your on a list.
Still no confirmation on the new options, ie comfort access, push button start, smg. Although, this salesman did say the active steering will be seperated from the sport package and will be an individual option. I forgot to ask if the active steering option has an on\off mode, would be nice.
Another saleman said it's possible comfort access, along with other new options, may not be offered on the first group of production cars.
Who knowS :tsk:

I'm also considering buying a new 650 and have a few questions if anyone could help me.
1. When will an option list be available to place an order?
2. Will a sport package/appearance package be offered for the 650 similar to the one on the new 3 series (similar to spy photos that have been spotted)?
3. For an "automatic" transmission, is the SMG transmission recommended for someone who wants control over the transmission, but also wants a good transmission for commuting in traffic or casual driving?
4. Is there a BMW dealer in the Bay Area who would be willing to sell a new BMW for $200-$300 over invoice if ordered?
Thank you.

Augie,
1) If you check with your dealer, they should be able to key in an order as of 7-19-05 and select options. (nothing printable yet)
2) don't know
3) No recommendation, a personal decision, must drive and compare, also drive an M3 for a real SMG experience.
4) not a chance, more like $1000 - 1500 off msrp (maybe now that the 650 is getting ready to go into production there may be a deal out there on 645ci left on the lot)

1.) Now
2.) No (Same sport package as before... same wheels)
3.) Sept. production will be Auto ONLY... hopefully SMG and Manual will start in Oct... BMW NA is still unsure
4.) ARE YOU FREAKIN' HIGH?!?! How about MSRP?
BTW... COMFORT ACCESS will be new to the 5 and 6 series... the 6 will also have new wheels for the non-sport. They look ok... but still not my thing. ZSP all day long.

Sure... you will no longer have a "traditional" key that goes in a hole and turns. It will be a key like the 7 and the E90 (probably more like the E90) so when equipped with Comfort Access... you will be able to have the key on your person... doors locked... the moment you touch the door handle and begin to pull up... the door will unlock and open. While in the car... foot on the brake... pushing the Start/Stop button will start the car... even while the key is still in your pocket. Later... I'm guessing... they will allow for remote starting of the car to warm or cool the car ahead of time for you.

The information I've received is SMG, Comfort Access and Active Steering as an option will not be in the first production but should be available soon.
In additon I was quoted $1,900 above '05 MSRP. Can anyone confirm that?

Certain... if "no" they are wrong.
0-60... Less then 5 seconds... not likely. Of course... I guess anything is possible.
Price... The increase is less then 1.9%... the numbers you speak of seem a bit high... when I get to the dealer tomorrow... I'll post the exact difference. I'm sorry I don't remember off the top of my head.
As for the delay on Comfort Access and SMG/Manual... etc... it will only be 30-60 days...

I'm surprised there's not a BMW dealer who'd be willing to sell a car for $250-$300 over invoice. My father just purchased a new Mercedes E500 from a Bay Area dealer for $250 over invoice. Can any forum members in the Bay Area recommend a local dealer who is more likely to offer a discount?

Also, is there a recommend lowering spring that will drop the car about 1"? Does the BMW parts department offer one?
Thank you

Forget it, the 645 (soon to be 650) are in limited supply and allocation to dealers. So the dealers don't have to negotiate. Most like to 'start' at MSRP and move slowly down. Very frustrating until you concede to the fact that the dealer will sell it regardless if your the buyer or not :(
Chrome Eliptical look much better than standard, imo, and readily available for $1600 list maybe $800 if you get a good discount

Dude... I'm tellin' you... with ALL due respect... that's a freakin' pipe dream. The E500 has no where near the Market Demand of the 650... not even freakin' close. Most dealers in the CA market STILL have a hard time getting 645s and are selling even 645s for MSRP.
MB is hurting... BMW is not.
MB is having trouble moving the E... in fact... I think the one you father bought is on it's way out and probably has a Factory Incentive... which means that the dealer didn't actually sell the car for $250. If the factory incentive was $4k... they made $4250. Now I don't know if that is the case... I just made the numbers up... but that is more then likely the case. I'll have to look up there allowances when I get in tomorrow.
There is NO WAY IN HELL that any dealer in the bay area... of all areas... is going to do anything like that for you. Why on earth would they when there are more then enough people out there willing to pay sticker... would you? Your honest answer would be NO WAY!

I, too, think the chrome can look good with the right color... BUT would not recommend it at all. Chroming will more then likely cause problems with the tire monitors. I have had clients that have had to deal with this and it can be very frustrating. Also... because the run-flats have such THICK side walls... they are a real bitch to mount... during this battle... I have seen a number of wheels damaged where the chrome will start to bubble around the lip.

Great link... thanks... it confirms exactly what I posted. THAT is the same exact Key Fob that the E90 is using. Rather then re-construct the dash... they added a Start/Stop button... and it looks like a retro-kit has been installed where the key-turn was... seems like a natural choice. That is NOT a key-turn (or should I say turn-key?) That is a slot... just like the E90 or even the 7er... you push the Key Fob in the spring loaded slot... then you fire her up... yeeeee haaaaaah!

Sorry Augie... I missed your post. If you stay local... I doubt that any Bay area dealer will discount any 650i for a while... BUT if you were to go outside of your area... I bet you could find a dealer that would do something for you. It certainly won't be thousands... but hundreds off seems reasonable if they are located in a market with lower then normal demand. You got to remember... if the cars are moving quickly... rather then sitting around... chances are they will not be motivated to shave anything off.
When your shopping... always be really nice... always be respectful and loyal to people your working with... AND I bet you will get some decent results. BUT... be ready for a road trip. Sounds like fun!

Its dealer talk. Actual Cash Value. When you trade in your car, you may think the dealer is giving you $10k for that POS (Piece Of $hit), but in reality, we all know the car has a ACV of $7k. So where did the add'l $3k come from??
Answer: from discounting the car. Say the car you are interested in has $5k profit at the price you agreed on, so subtract $3k from the profit because , YOU, mr custumer's hot buttom is that you think your POS is worth $10k (but it really isn't) so in this casethey take $3k from the profit to make it seems like your POS is worth $10k, and only make $2k profit in this new car.
If the above is too confusing, don't worry about. Just remember that a good deal is what you and your dealer both agreed that its a good deal. regardless what others are paying for it. ;)

That is the new MY2006 standard "Push Button Start" Requires a key (of some sort) and then u push the button. Not kewl IMHO. Comfort Start is as previously described and is a $1000 option on all the MY2006 5 series including 550i. Expect it will also be at least $1000 for 6er. I liked it on the 745 i had for a week or so but when it is on one of four vehicles it is somewhat confusing as u switch between them.

RE price, BMW is raising all its prices on Sep 1 so the cost difference on a 650 is more due to the general price increase than the new engine.
Re keyless entry, it is worth its price in gold. I have a 2006 750Li and I no longer reach for my keys to get into my car and it is so easy to get used to that.
I also expect on the new 650 to have bluetooth and an MP3 CD changer.
I also expect the car to have the exact same performance difference on paper as the 7 series have in order to preserve the value of the older cars, but in reality I can see a major power difference with this new engince in comparison with 745 cars I drove, the extra power made a bi difference and I suspect that the 5.8 0-60 number on the 750Li is a marketing stunt to underestimate the difference in order not to dipreciate the older models.
in Munich the guy who delivered my car told me that there is a whole 0.5 seconds difference with this new motor.
I would wait and not even think twice.

Dude... that's what I said. The picture IS the same key fob as the E90 w/ push button start. This allows for comfort access. Rather then re-design the dash for the key fob slot, they put a retro kit where the current traditional twist key is located. This is very obvious if you know what your talking about... and since I live and breath these machines every day... I'm certainly an authority on these matters. :D
2006_750Li_ED is right on the money... pun intended... the conservative performance numbers are typical BMW. They are famouse for understating and over delivering. The new cars with the new drive train will freakin' smoke the old models... period.
