I found your post about the smoking issue very informative and maybe you could help me out. So I have the dreaded smoking after idle problem. I did two different tests, first I disconnected the vanos to disable the VVT and no more smoking. The second test I did was the test you describe in the thread for the crank case ventilation...also no more smoking. But my hoses were in good shape and the CCV valse seem to be clean and serviceable so what do you think the issue would be? Can you actually drive with the (bar stool) cap in place and the CCVs just venting?
I saw Bembo's post about replacing the water pump. How do you know it's gone? Mine seems to be making rattling noises, but it's pumping (coolant visisble from the bleeder tube at expansion tank), and there are no leaks. Without engine running, I pulled the belt off and spun the water pump by hand. The sound was consistent, but I'm not sure it's the source. I was surprised though, that there was almost no resistance. Any guidance appreciated. I have a high mileage 06 750 out of factory warranty, but I have an extended 3rd party variety that covers water pumps (but not thermostat's, electronics, etc.). Thanks.
