Hey Beth! Thanks for checking in. The trip was awesome. If you haven't seen it, look for my ED adventure post under the thread title "384 Hour Rule". I put up some photos and a bit of text over the course of a few days after we got back in early October. (I think the thread is still accessible somewhere on page one or two of the ED forum). Actually, now that I say that, I'm thinking you have seen my posting because the last time I looked I recall seeing a reply from you regarding the food at Eremo Gaudio not being so hot but the views werre to die for. And I agree. In fact, if I recall your great photos, we may have stayed in the same room you did in the upper building, since your photos and my photos of Varenna from the room balcony look very similar.

Here's another bit of exciting news. My car got delivered to the dealer yestgerday! After only 5 weeks and 2 days from dropoff in Nice. I was fully prepared (albeit not happy) to have to wait until close to Thanksgiving to take redelivery, so you can imagine how exciting it is to get it so much sooner. I can't get over there until Saturday. The downside is that after unseasonably warm 70 degree weather the last few days, they're predicting high temps in the upper 30's with snow showers for the weekend! :( Not exactly great top down motoring weather. It may be Spring before I can drop the top again. Unfortunately, weather like that goes with the turf here in south central Wisconsin.

Hope you are throughly enjoying your car, and that it gives you long, trouble free, and happy service. And thanks again for your great post and photos, which made me even more excited about my planned ED trip during the wait to get over there.

    Best to you -

Beth - Thanks for the info about the Lake Como sight seeing flight. We may very well check that out if the weather and our budget cooperate. I just inked my deal this morning with the local dealer on the 335 convertible. I'm excited to get over there and pick up the car and do some zipping around. The only major downside, as you have already experienced and as I'm sure I will, is the agonizingly long wait for the car to be redelivered. We're dropping off in Nice on Sept 29, flying home the next day. I bet I'm lucky to see my car again by Thanksgiving (7-ish weeks). And by then, here in Wisconsin, convertible driving season will be only a memory. I probably should have planned to do this in the Spring, in order to get the car home and enjoy more of the summer. On the other hand, there's no time like the present. When guys like Tim Russert start dropping over at age 58 (an age I am currently sitting on) it makes me want to do more of these sorts of things while I'm still way healthy and able. I had a friend who was fond of saying about life "this isn't the dress rehearsal". We don't get another chance to do these things again. This is it. Hopefully this trip will be as good as your experience seems to have been.

Greetings - I have seen your recently posted photos. Fabulous, enjoyed them all. As others have said, you have a great eye for detail and composition.

I enjoyed seeing all the pics from Eremo Gaudio, as we'll be staying there for two nights. Wonderful views. I also enjoyed the seaplane photos. Looks like a cool little jaunt. If I may ask, what did the flight set you back? I may want to look into doing it too. Can you just hire them on a walk up basis, or do you need an advance resie? Michael (mrd)

No, I never got around to it... I haven't even dealt with titling all of the photos I uploaded to Flickr. We were travelling for 3 1/2 weeks, so the thought of writing it all up at this point seems kinda daunting. I should suck it up and do it anyway tho.

    Hi

I just saw this - was at my beach house over the weekend - yes, I got her yesterday!

You will love the Eremo Gaudio. Let me know how the rest of the trip goes - for all the times I've been to Florence I've never been to Fiesole.. curious - why did you pick that, instead of Florence itself?

Skywalkerbeth - No, we don't fly out until September 15, with a delivery date in the morning of Sept 17. I may have previously mentioned that we've decided to stay for two nights at Eremo Gaudio for the Lake Como portion of our adventure, based in part on your recommendation. We're really looking forward to it. We have reservations for Munich (a night at Laimer Hof and a night at Hotel Uhland), and a resie in Fiesole (La Canella), but don't have reservations for the two nights we think we might spend in the Cinque Terre area. The couple of places I hoped to nail down were booked, so we might just wing it and see what happens. We're pretty adventurous so if we have to figure it out on the fly we'll give it a shot. Many times the best experiences occur when everything isn't planned to the nth degree.

Have you been able to reunite with your car yet? I've followed your post off and on and it looked like it was imminent, so I hope it's come to fruition.

    Best to you -
    Michael
