    The forum page won't let me add to your original post, so here's a new one.

    No. That is not right. Your temperature gauge should never go much past center.

    You could have a bad thermostat. That's pretty common. I certainly would have replaced it when the system was drained.

    You cold have a broken water pump impeller. That common for the cars that got plastic impellers, but nobody know which ones they are.

    You could still have air in the system. Did you read-up on how to bleed the system? Did you raise the front of the car as high as possible? Did you turn on the heater? Did you squeeze the top hose?

    I also hope you are replacing all of the plastic pieces in the cooling system: radiator, reservoir, water pump, thermostat housing, fan, and fan pulley. All of those are getting brittle with age.
