I can't verify that its normal. However my was loose too. Or a better word is it did have some play in it. So I think your ok unless you've had oil pump problems.

Hey Wilson the chain to oil pump drive is normal to be little lose? Because my little lose.

The o-rings should seal everything up. I put some permatex on them anyway out of paranoia.

Hey Wilson - I'm Adam. I'm replacing my alternator and in the midst I noticed my water pump is leaking too. Keif has been helping with tips and tricks. I saw your DIY and thanks! With the alternator repair underway, the waterpump is a POC. I've got the old one off and a new one ordered at O'Rilley ($111) not bad! My question 4 you, did you put any gasket goop on the pipes that connect to the wp? Do you have any tips in installing the new one? Thanks!

My DIY's - New alternator, battery, CCVs, idler/tensioner pulleys belts, NGK Iridium spark plugs, , sway bar bushings, Front rear brakes, Valve Block, Head Gasket, Exhaust Gasket, Upper and lower Timing Gaskets, Valve Covers, exhaust valves, Timing Chain slide rails, Fuel Injector o-rings, pulled radiator, Intake Manifold Gaskets, water pump, Coolant Pipe/weep hole, oil pan gasket, vacuum pump, fan shroud, Vanos solenoid o-rings, and timed it with a timing kit.
