Hi Ryan: (he says a year later) - nope I swapped the original 4.4 L damaged block for a 4.6 L block from the X5 4.6. New block, new pistons, and rods. Same old top end, VANOS etc. THere was a lot of modification done with porting, polishing and hand-;lapping the valves. Main thing is to be aware it is NOT CHEAP.
Hello, I just read a post about your engine conversion. I was considering doing the same thing to my 97 540-6. As I read it, you used a crankshaft from a X5 4.6 and swaped it into a 4.4 out of the 540. Did you use stock X5 pistons also? Was there anything I should be aware of before I begin the conversion?
Any information would be greatly appriciated.
