I have a BMW X5d but do not have an iPhone adapter. I do not have anything in my elbow rest so I am wondering if I need to buy a platform and the adapter or just purchase the adapter? I have found a couple on amazon.com for 100-200 dollars and was thinking about getting one of those.
Thanks so much for the help again! Happy New Year!
For iphone 5 just use your phone USB cable, plug it in the USB connection in the arm rest (assuming that you have the USB connection there). For ipod then you will need the BMW ipod Y-cable which has a usb and aux end
This is wrong. If your BMW was built post 10/10, any Apple device can be hooked up with the generic white Apple cable. If it was before, you need the Y cable and for the iPhone 5, you need the Y cable with the lightening port adapter on it.
If the USB connection is in the glove compartment, and the AUX input is in the armrest, what standard installation (if any) does this configuration indicate?
I have a '10 X5d which was built some time late 2009. Thx!
It means you don't have 6FL, so no iPod/USB hookup. If you had that, there would be a USB port next to the AUX jack. The USB jack in the glovebox is to put music onto the hard drive of the iDrive.

Thanks so much for the feedback guys. I'll check to see if I have the USB in the arm rest and if not ill grab a Y connector.
