645 iDrive programmable button

My 645, along with some other models has a programmable steering wheel button which can be customized to the driver's needs. Although I have had the car for fifteen months, I have never programmed it. Does anyone actually use this feature, and ,if so, for what?.

There are 2 programable buttons on mine. I use one for turning the Air recirculation thingy on/off and another for switching between CD and Radio. The last one i find usefull since i don't have to go trough the whole iDrive to switch to radio or CD.

I use mine to have the navigation system repeat the last instructions and to switch between FM /AM/ Weather radio and CD player. If you go into vehicle settings you will find the options for the buttons.I think you have about 6 options to choose from.

I use mine to mute the audio, and the second one to change between audio inputs (radio, CD)

I use my top button to go straight to my address book. I do not have to take my eyes off the road to do this.

Most of the options are redundant. They hardly come into play really, but use mine for audio switch and phone book. Seem like the most useful.

One option I find absolutely useless is the voice recognition, hardly ever understands your command, other than dialing a phone number.

I use mine to turn off/on iDrive at night and go to address book.

I have a strong Irish accent and find that voice recognition understands me perfectly :-) Go figure!
