Ho,ho,ho... 450hp kit finally available
 

I just checked VF-Engineering to see if they updated their page and there it was. SC kit for the 645 running at 6psi and producing 450HP :) The dyno pic on their page is screwed (show's some other car with 380hp or 280) so don't mind that. It costs 8k witch i think it's pretty cheap.
Anyone from the US who thinks of getting one or talks to them please post here more details and stuff...

Curious to see VF release a kit and not Vortech themselves.

BTW: what do you know about this guys (VF) anyway? Are they a big company who does this stuff (kinda like ActiveAutoWerke, Dinan... not big like Dinan but comparable...) or just first timers?

I've been periodically going to this site. I gave up on them like a month ago.. so thanks for the information. Things I noted:

1. The picture of the engine cover (is that what they are called?) was red. Looks very much like Hamann's.

Hamann, however, is a stroker engine. You will also have to ship your car to California, or Germany for the engine conversion. (Or just ship the engine.) I forgot the Cali city that has the Hamann 'dealership'.

2. If you look in the latest issue of EuroTuner, you'll see the same red hood on a black 6, with caption saying VF-blown. Or something like that. I dont' have the magazone on me.

3. So, based of 1&2, I thought this guy got his engine stroke and blown, which sounds pornographic.

4. $8k is fairly cheap, and I would do it right now, if it weren't for all the money I burn on my tires.

5. Considering how awful my flat tire experiences have been, I think I'll ride out my warranty. I bought a 5 year extended warranty. I'll be waiting a very long time. :( The good news is, by then, kits like this should be cheaper, and all the kinks worked out. Also, stroking your engine would be way cheaper than the ludicrous price of $40k.

6. I really want to get my engine stroked. (I know hp/dollars is the lowest.), then get it charged.

7. Did you see the details on that kit? They are developing a stage II kit for it. I wonder what that will be....

8. Did my research on VF-engineering a long time back. I just remember them being a very good shop, from what I gathered.

9. The warranty on the blower looks pretty good. I'm all about warranty these days :)

10. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought Dinan does not make their own blowers, they just slap their name on someone else' blower, and 'tune down' the performance for better reliability, and for warranty claims.

11. If you are serious about upgrading your 6 or more curious about your options, there's always that link I sent you about Racing Dynamics. You might also want to check out Korman BMW. Korman also sells engines too. They build racing engines. Gotta warn you, their website sucks, so be prepared to poke around and ask questions directly.

I got a reply from them. The kit is still under development and will take 3 more months to test out then 1 month to build so 4 months. Maybe something else will pop up by then.
I'm not into something as big as changing the whole engine like RD does. Plus, the cost to that would probably allow me to upgrade to a M6 so i'd have to be crazy :)
I don't know about the strocking part. Maybe you guys have many options for that type of thing over the pond because of all the Vette, stang guys doing it but here in the EU there's only Hamann and Hartge. Plus i'd really not want increasing the fuel consumption witch is already pretty bad as it is. A SC system would give me the choice of burning the same fuel by cruising at relaxed revs witch would not be the same as with the displacement upgrade.

I agree that the best thing right now would be to go to Hamann or some other guys and stroke it then get some forged pistons and slap the VP kit on it upping the PSI the blower's running (if that's possible) so the engine doesn't blow out on you. I'd think it would be good for around 600hp going that route but IMO it would take too much money and it's too extreme for me at the moment :) (this is the first car with more then 115hp i have ever driven so 600 would really be overkill at the moment :D).

Definitely, wait. I've talked to a Hartge representative in North America, he told me that a German company will be making a SC for the 6er. I'll have to dig the letter up, but the name of the company was something like "MK Sports" or something like that.


It's a bit crazy, that's for sure. I'm sure you can shop around for much cheaper engines. I really believe you pay a premium for the name brand. You can also check out Korman BMW, once you've saved enough money.

Stroking is also expensive, but it gets cheaper as your car gets older, from what I've noticed. I also noticed the older the car, the more likely you can by a stroker kit. My friend owns a tuning shop, and he also tells me this.

You also have other options in EU aside from Hamann, and Hartge. You should inquire about Breyton and Alpina.



Well my 6er is my first car. I've had to hold off on any mods. My tuner friend says I shouldn't even touch my car. Getting 6 flat tires also helps one appreciate warranties and reliability! I don't plan to tune my 6er, until the warranty expires, and my 6er looks like a beat up car.

Anyways, you now have about a 3x increase in HP. Why make it about 4.5x? I can tell even at 450HP, won't be enough for you. Hehehe.... that's good, 'more power to you.'

Breyton does the same thing that Hamann does if i remember correctly. Alpina would sure be nice. They take the 4.4's to around 500hp and more torque then the M's but you have to buy the whole car from them. I've emailed them some time ago and asked if the engine mods alone could be done and they said they are a car manufacturer not a tuning company so...

Hehe, 450hp would be enough for me, untill i get the M6 that is ;)
