Night vision?
 

Can night vision be retrofitted? I have a 2006 7 series, and would like to add it.

After doing a European delivery 2 weeks ago I finally found out why this feature exists. While driving in the country in total darkness on a narrow road that cars barely pass through, I saw deer crossing the road and I nearly run them over. This is what it is for. If you live in a city and go on freeways or have street lights you have absolutely no need for this feature.
Besides who would look at the instrument cluster in order to see where they are driving? you would miss all the information that is visible from the windshield..... you could get sued for not looking through the windshield. I would not get that feature if I were you.
If you insist on having it, I am sure that if you paid enough money they could give you that feature, perhaps for $5000 is it worth it?

Well, NightVision - I thought about a retro as well, but due to the same reasons 2006_750Li_ED posted, I didn't go any further than thinking about it...:dunno:

I have NV on my '07. Yes, it's fun to mess around with, but I am not sure I see the point of it as a $2,000 option. I'm sure if it coud be retrofitted, it's be a lot more costly than that.

If I were spending that same $2,000 again, I'd probably opt for Active Cruise instead.

Its a novelty thing to have if you live in the city, out in the middle of nowhere (where I currently reside) you need it because most roads are absent of street lamps. One thing I don't understand is why they didn't implement it in the HUD.:dunno:

I can certainly see why it'd be more helpful if you weren't in the city. I live in a pretty metropolitan area, but have some dark and twisty roads to get to my home. It definitely is more useful there. However, because the image is on the iDrive screen and not, as you said, displayed in HUD, it's simply not convenient to REALLY watch. Having it displayed in HUD would make all the difference, I imagine.

Piss poor design if you ask me.:tsk:
