2008 BMW X5 Mileage

First off, I want to say that I am SORRY if anyone has started this thread, please don't brand me as junk or rubbish. I have searched part of the forum, but there are just too many pages. I found one similar thread, but he wanted to know about an '04 mileage.

My question is, what mpg's are you guys getting on the '07-'08 4.8i? post the mpg's on the 3.0is too, if you don't mind.

Thanks!

By the way, I am getting 8.2 mpg after 56 miles of driving on the road, and a few miles off the highway.

Cheers :p

Mixed city/highway, but mostly city, usually gets in the mid 13s.

chonko 01-28-2008 06:06 PM

I have 750 miles on mine and I am averaging 13.8 mpg, and it is a 4.8 petrol drinker.

cross5x 01-28-2008 06:10 PM

hmm...thats interesting. i hope my mpg 'evolves' to a better one. I drive ferociously, as I fly off the lights, and averages 40-50 miles on the road. I just could not resist the power of the engine roaring before me. I hope that doesn't destroy my mpg.

Bruin72 01-28-2008 07:17 PM

Only 600 miles so far, but 18.8 mpg in a 3.0si.

zen68 01-28-2008 07:25 PM

18 mpg in a 3.0si with just over 3000 miles.

jwhkcmo 01-29-2008 08:22 PM

08 4.8i 3,800 miles, 16.2 MPG (13 around town, 18+/- highway)

cross5x 01-29-2008 08:54 PM

hmm.. this is strange. at 90 miles, my 4.8i is giving me 6.4 mpg, dropping it from 8.2 (i havent took the highway since)

is this because it has not break in yet?

mikeny 04-23-2008 11:39 PM

Same here, my 4.8 with 40 miles aver. 8.2 street only - kind of crazy. I could imagine when I will start pushing it to 6-7K rpm, it would probably aver. 5-6mpg - no fun :(

I recommend giving your engine some time to break in...I no longer have my X5 (an 04 4.4) but the mileage improved considerably once I got over 1000 miles on the odometer.

My lifetime average on the 04 (I never reset the second trip computer) was 18.8mpg (combined city/hwy).

The 4.8 in my 650 was somewhat the same....Early mileage really sucked (though not nearly as bad as you report, but there are obvious vehicle differences), and then improved with time. Also, watch your oil usage CLOSELY in the first 1000 miles.

when was 500 miles 11.8mpg in city
now @1500 with an oil changed 13.8mpg in city
hwy around 16-18mpg
2008 X5 4.8

i hope this help!

Have a 3.0 and get 20.1 highway.

Sounds like the mileage for a H1 Hummer!

Relniius 04-25-2008 01:03 PM

07 4.8. I drive about 70/30% city/hwy respectively. After 13,000 miles, am averaging 15.3 mpg over the last 1500 miles (~1.5 months).

For you lower-mpg folks, are you driving it in sport? That significantly lowers mpg rating when I do.

I tend to fly off lights and routinely accelerate on the highway (thanks Escort for the radar protection), so I am not light-footing it by any means.

My X5(3.0) with 800 miles is getting 21 mpg. taking it easy and mostly county driving.

windsor027 04-28-2008 11:10 AM

1,611 miles and my wife (a lot more gentle with the gas petal than I) averages about 12.1 miles. she usually drives the kids to school and to the mall. We have not gone in a road trip yet.

theprof 04-28-2008 11:26 AM

08 4.8 9700 miles.
Highest was about 18.1 on a trip.
Combined driving at about 55% highway, 45% city is about 15.8.

Bruin72 04-28-2008 01:49 PM

3200 miles so far, with 19.1 mpg in a 3.0si. About 50-50 highway and city.

firstbmwX3 04-28-2008 02:19 PM

Wow, I'm getting 19.5mpg city in my 2007 X3 auto, sounds like the X5 is almost the same. I get 22mpg highway going about 75-80mph. Damn, I should be driving an X5!

NetSpySD 04-28-2008 02:43 PM

With fuel prices, and BMWFS financial woes, V8 SUV's will take a resale bath. Be sure you are leasing.

By the end of the year we should start seeing the X5 diesel which will get around 25MPG.

mikeny 04-28-2008 03:12 PM

just came back from vacation house 125 miles away, with 22.6mpg from house to house. x5 4.8 with 400miles :), the only thing - very very light on a gas with speed 65 max, most of rpm in 1500-2100 range :)

It must have been all down hill. No way a 5,000 lb truck is getting 22MPG.

mikeny 04-28-2008 03:31 PM

its all up/down, and yes I was using Nutral on down hill on the same road my X3 getting 23.8, and 530i(255hp) 35.0mpg :)

i get 19 / 19.5 at 80 mph with all interstate driving. (1200 mile roundtrip) the 4.8 is very throttle sensitive to mpgs. i don't doubt methodical throttle application at 65 mph might yield 21 mpg or so on a leg of interstate travel.

dcharnet 04-28-2008 09:17 PM

Of course wind direction plays a big role in mileage. On a state 2 lane highway at 63 mph I recently got 25.7 on my 08 3.0 with a tailwind of 15 or so. Headed back the other way I got 21.3
