Painting my E30

I found a good painter to repaint my car. I need to know the best place to purchase the paint and what kind of paint I need? Color code is 170/8 BahamaBeige Metallic. I am staying with the factory color and want to make sure on my paint choice. He is going to sand completely, fix any dents, (car is straight except for some small hail dents), one coat of primer, two coats of paint and one clear coat for $400. I supply the paint and clearcoat. Pretty good deal?

Sounds like a great deal, but $400.00 sounds very cheap for a good paint job. If he's a professional, ask him if he has any pics of cars that he's painted before so you can get a rough idea on how good he is.

$400 sounds suprisingly inexpensive to me

if true... a great deal...I would think more like $3000 to have it done absolutely right with real BMW paint and so forth...best of luck...cliff

$400 dollars is way cheap, especially including the body work. Deals happen sometimes, I hope he does a good job. If it doesn't turn out that great, at least you have some problem areas fixed. I usually let the guy doing the spraying make the paint recommendations.

yeah, idk bout 400 w/o materials.....materials alone should run about a G at the least...
but as long as you know your painter (and know he isn't screwin u over at least)....then you should be ok... best of luck

macco paint job = tape off glass.....dip in paint

Prep work is the main thing. I bet if you remove every piece of plastic you can, he'll have more time to do a decent job.

Believe me I have seen his work and talked to his customers. I plan on removing as much as I can that is in the way. I don't want to go to the dealer for paint, thats why I'm asking here. He said two to three quarts of paint and the same in clear coat. Anyone bought paint lately? Wanting to do this next weekend, I will post before and afters.

Most auto parts stores can mix up the paint for you. I have gone to NAPA for paint for my 325is and the paint is good. I would however have your painter put on two to three coats of clear coat. It will give you a deeper shine and protect the base coat better.
Stay away from ICI paint products. They tend to peel after a few years.
Good luck
