Can someone explain to me why does an E30 M3 cost so much? The reason why I am asking is because I saw a Black 1989 M3 with 163K mi daily driver for sale, and the asking price was 12k. That price to me doesn't seem reasonable because all of the seats in the car are in bad condition, cracks throughout every sq in of the leather, the paint on both of the door edge has chips also there is a penny sized dent in the pass door. The windshield has damage and there was oil dripping from the the motor. Any other E30 in that condition would never be listed for such an exorbitant price.

B/c it is an M3. If you have to ask why, you don't understand the E30 M3. That price may be a bit on the high side for the condition you describe, but it is definitely in the ballpark. A engineless car (complete except the engine) is worth at least $5-6k alone.

Have you driven one? If not, go drive one. It may be similar to a normal E30, but they are very different.

+1 You have to drive one with an s14 and hear it at 7K RPMs :thumbup:

Ooohhh... So that's how people actually have the nerves to charge $ 30.000 plus for a mint condition old piece of crap?!? Because it handles well and sounds cool.. Okay..

I guess I could in that case just slap on some real sport springs, and cut of the exhaust on my E46 to make it sound cool, and sell it for 90.000 dollar...

By the way.. I do not hate the old E30 M3's, as a matter of fact I am picking one up in the next few days for 5K..

Still a piece of crap compared to the newer ones, but a major part of BMW history..

e30 m3 are rare and hard to find nowadays because it is classic and bmw does not make cars this way anymore.
the price depends on the condition of the m3..if it is totally restored ..i have seen e30 m3 goes for over $20k in very mint conditino..fully resotored,engine and tranny rebuilt and fresh new paint job...not a cheap paint job..a professional $4000 pain job.
