8-speed tranny going into new 760Li

Anybody read Roundel this month? The new 760Li will be equipped with a new 8-speed transmission as well as an exhaust system that has two modes, quiet and sport. Finally a new transmission to replace our troubled ones. Sunny, I am sure this is old news to you. I hope they put the new transmission in the 750 as well.

I want an F01/02 so freakin bad. At least I'll have something to look forward to in a few years.

That's great news, hope they keep this one tight unlike the previous ZF 6 speed (lol, we all know about that).

Looking forward to hear/read more about it.

yes it is:p
from what i read bmw is going to put the 8sp tranny in the ALL F01-02 models(750 & 760) for my2010 model. the F10 is also going to have the 8sp tranny

You know, when I got this '06 the transmission was tight and night and day from my 2007. Pretty sure I remarked on it here. Now it feels like my 2007, sluggish and it even has done the slip and bang when accelerating from a slow roll a few times. I have to wonder if it has something to do with driving habits as these transmissions are supposed to learn and memorize. I need to do a reset. Is it from one push of the button to two?

Nice. The exhaust feature should be pretty cool as well. I always wanted a sweet sounding exhaust, but not full time. From the blurb I read, when you punch it, some flaps open up in the system and the thing purs.

It's that 25 sec thing, with all lights lit on dash like Christmas Tree,:rofl:.

Insert the key fob, press the start button without your foot on brake pedal, and then hold the acclerator for 25-30 secs. Right?

Wilassasin 06-29-2009 09:43 AM

I could care less....Will probrably still be problematic!

thats because the dealer reset the learning algorithm on the tranny when you took delivery of it and i bet it shifted like butter.

That's exactly why... I posted my thoughts about this before but the issue is with BMW and their software, not the transmission itself.

The trans is a great piece of tech and you can see how well it works when all the settings are reset and fresh. Its the adaptive software though that ruins the experience. Its because most people adapt to their cars, we all learn how the transmission and throttle work and feel and get used to it. But BMW's software causes to the transmission to try and adapt to us at the same time, which means neither us nor the car ever actually get in sync.

I just dont see why this is such a big problem though to fix... if they cant update the software to completely remove the adaptations, they can at least just program a reset on every start. But they wont. I hate BMW sometimes. I really hope they dont pull this crap again in the new 7...

Confirm what?

The transmissions are made by ZF : http://www.zf.com

30 seconds on Google brings up this info, with the first 2 links being official info directly from ZF itself (if you havent already gone to zf.com and seen the giant banner about the new 7 series)

Research isnt that hard to do, try it out sometime.
