2006 750 Li - Low Oil warning between scheduled changes
 

I recently had to add 2 quarts of oil because the low oil warning came on. It actually read "Oil level at minimum level" and it alerted me each time the car was shut off. I took it into the dealer and they topped it off.

Here are the questions:

Why does the car need oil?

Is this normal?

Does the need for more oil indicate a leak somewhere? I am not noticing anything on my garage floor.

If there is no leak, why would it be burning oil?

My 760 does the same thing and when I asked the SA at the dealer he stated it was normal.

i would say that its usual for a 760 to eat that much oil but not for a 750

i know that some cars burn oil if its of the wrong grade or quality ! shouldn't be from a dealer though !

I get the same thing sometimes between oil changes. There's not leak, my SA said it is normal as well. They burn a little.

750 is a V12 right ??

no, 760 has the 6L V12, 750 has the 4.8L V8

How long are you going between oil changes? All cars burn a small amount of oil, as some is left on the cylinder walls when the pistons slide up and down. Some cars more than others. If your going say 8 thousand miles between oil changes, its normal to burn a couple quarts. Again, some motors will burn more and some less because there are many variables including your driving style, the weather conditions in your area, and the type of oil you use.

check it more often ! will give you an idea of how much your using !!??

My 05 did that. I'd add about a half a quart or so, and it would go off. I thought there is no way to check the oil. I know it takes 8 quarts. Never added 2 quarts, but it has happened to me. Summed it up to being normal. When I called BMW, they seemed it was no big deal. Added oil and kept going.
