E90 Roof Trim/Center Console Peeling Paint
The paint is flaking off the driver's side roof trim (where the roof rack attaches) on my 2006 325i. I did a search in this forum but didn't find much info.
Also, the center console and door pull is peeling on the driver's side. I found a SIB for the door handle in a forum post, but I haven't found anything on the center console. Is anyone aware of service bulletins for these issues. Thanks. http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/pic...ictureid=11212 http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/pic...ictureid=11214 http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/pic...ictureid=11213 |

I had the same problem with the roof trim.(replaced N/C) It ts a known problem and should be a no charge fix from the dealer. The interior soft touch plastics on earlier E90's were coated not molded and problematic. Talk to your dealer.

I was aware of the interior peeling issues. I did not know that the exterior had similar problems.
Interestingly, I ran into a guy with an E46 last week and he was having the exact same problem with his exterior trim. He said that the peeling started to get worse and worse after each rain. However, we had an E46 that was parked outside for seven years. No peeling whatsoever. |
I remember reading somewhere that soft trim is not covered under warranty. I have the same problem with my car.

Ahhh...

I had the same problem with my roof trim. Dealer replaced it at N/C but my car was under warranty at the time. You're the third or fourth person on this forum that has had that problem with an '06. (aside from myself) Not exactly in the league of HPFP failures, but I got the impression it was failry common.

***UPDATE***
The car is still under warranty, so dealer replaced all of these at N/C. |
Good to hear. One of my parent's friend's daughter's 06' was doing the same. She has been asking me asking about it and I had no clue if it could be replaced or not. She also has the extended warranty. The only issue with that is BMW Momentum West. They hate dealing with warranty claims if you didn't buy from them originally from what I have experienced with my old X3. :tsk:
Sorry for the mini rant. |
Roof trim
I have the same issue on my '07 e90. The piece is on order and It will be replaced under warranty. I am having additonal issues and fighting with BMWNA to replace the flaking A/Y shift knob and flaking paint on the console trim (The outside edge facing the next to the driver's seat cushion). The dealership told me it would be a cost (&500.00) to me. I am currently in the process of badgering BMWNA. I have owned 6 BMWs since the mid a070's without issues of this kind; it is distressing that BMWNA has not agreed to rplace without question.

I had the roof trim issue on my 2008 328i and it was replaced under warranty. On the driver side only. Can't figure out why just the one side. Dealer indicated it was a common problem. No issues with interior trim.

i have an 06 e90 and replace the steering wheel, side panels because of peeling paint. and a year later it peeled again, and now my warranty has expired

Same problem w/my 06' (roof trim rail). Has anyone replaced it on their own? Part #'s? Difficult job?
|
Same with my 06. However the interior isn't peeling much at all (thankfully). But in some places its getting a greenish tint to it, is this normal???

Any insight on this??? Is it easy to do yourself? Anyone have service manual with part numbers?? |
^I'm looking in to this now. If I find anything, I'll post it up.

Same thing on my 2008 - passenger side only
Just getting replaced today NC. Last day under BMW warrantee though and I don't think it would have been free otherwise. Seems like a pretty common problem.
