Cayenne vs X5.
If prices of both were the same in the same category which one would u choose ? And why ? Say X5 5.0 vs Cayenne S and X5M vs Cayenne Turbo or Turbo S ?
|
Well on a BMW board I suspect most will like the Bimmer. Personally I like the Porsche, especially the 2011 refresh version. I just see too many X's of all types around and it is hard to tell the difference between an '01 and a '11 without looking hard. The new Porsche's have a nicer interior IMHO and the base version (compares with the 3.0) is a great bargain, but you have to watch the option list! Getting into the V8 the "S" & "GTS" have 400 hp compare with the 5.0 The Cayenne Turbo offers up 510 hp with its twin turbo V8 and runs with the X5M. The Cayenne has come a long way from those early "slug sled" days of the base V6. The new V6 is 300 hp and offers a manual six speed for those so inclined. In any case they are worth a look. Now I return you to our regular BMW commercial announcements.

"especially the 2011 refresh version"
You are kidding right? The 2011 Cayenne looks like an jacked up econobox, especially from the back, its hideous. On to the interior, put its picture next to the X5 interior....... nuff said. But the Turbo S is whole another story........... I was thinking about the GTS at one point myself. |
Probaly I agree with u, 0428, the new cayenne from back is not good, looks probably like many other SUVs of cheaper categories. I drive X5 4.8 and it is like "thinking" a little bit during acceleration. Do u think with cayenne Turbos the same thing happens ?

well said!

BMW will always make better interiors and more confortable seats than anyone, even benz.. as far as performance.. the X5 M will beat the Turbo.. :)
|
I looked hard at the Cayenne before buying the X5D. I really liked the Porsche, it was the lousy gas mileage that kept me away. With the new supercharged hybrid and body styling it would be hard for me not to buy the Cayenne.
|
I would love to see a "shoot out" between the Cayenne super Turbo and the X5M. As far as general interiors go, personally I like the Audi interiors better than anyone's including MB. For some reason however I just like the Porsche Cayenne's because it just seems to fit so well with the car. Total personal perspective. There is nothing "wrong" with the X5, it is just that they are all over the place.

The M spanks the sh1t out of the Turbo S. The 5 should give similar performace as the 6. |
Wait for the new one. I don't think the result will be the same. ;)
|
Yes it is the competition forever. X6M = 555 h.p, old Turbo S ( till 2010) = 550 h.p, the new Turbo S is not released yet but will have probably 570 h.p or more .

Have you ever been in another vehicle? :dunno: While I do love my comfort seats, to say that BMW has the best interiors available is beyond laughable. |
I see you have the X and the benz, how do they compare if you don't mind?
|
I'm a bit partial to the Audi, I know it wasn't mentioned by the OP though. I'd still have to lean to the XM vs the Turbo S. My wife wants to trade the '08 Tahoe for the Audi also so that may happen sooner than later. I will have her check out the XM again though too.
|
I still have trouble liking the Q7 looks but the Q5 is just great IMHO. Still, the ladies seem to love the Q7. I guess its the really great Q7 interior. However, if the wife is happy then you will be happy.

What if the wife is happy with anything, like a Highlander?

Before this Tahoe she had a black Trailblazer SS that I added an intake and magnaflow exhaust to, tinted the windows, de-badges, and added some subtle paint to. It was powerful and the leather adn suede seats were ok, but the interiors don't compare to the Audi, BMW, and Cayenne. Ran 13.00s at a Super Chevy Show :) Actually won money by placing and I was only there for fun! |
Hey, if she wants a Highlander (or even a Borrego) and she is happy than trust me, you will be happy!

The Porsche clearly has a more upscale interior and leather tailoring. The looks are subjective between the two. There are far fewer Cayennes driving around than X5's if that's a factor. A big selling point for me is the BMW all-inclusive warranty. Anyone who has owned a Porsche knows that services are expensive, even for a simple oil change; they also look for reasons to bump up the bill. I was told once that some outfits have a commission based service department. The final cost of the vehicle is likely to be considerably more for the Porsche, not just because of the base price, but because every last thing is an expensive option. They extol it as customization, however you feel a little nickel-and-dimed when you are done. My $.02.

I was extremely surprised to see that the Comfort seat bottom bolsters were non-adjustable. |
I have both, the BMW is a better built vehicle, you get more for your money, more comfortable, just better overall. The Porsche turns more heads and is a blast to drive.

no longer a contest
the Cayenne S is a 6 and half second car to 60 (like my E70 4.8). The new 5.0 is a rocket. Its nearly as fast as a 335. You could matchup a Cayenne turbo with a 50 and it wouldn't be terribly out performed. The Cayenne S is bunk. Maybe the new Cayenne is a different story?
I have a porsche. The Cayenne has never been superior to its equivalent X5, and they are notably more expensive. DRP |
[QUOTE= The Cayenne has never been superior to its equivalent X5, and they are notably more expensive. The base Cayenne with the 300 hp V6 and standard leather is in my view a better deal than the base X5. It is less expensive and has more standard content than the X5 base. Aside from not seeing one everytime you turn a corner (like you do here) the Cayenne just looks better to me. Subjective of course but that's what car styling is. No one likes everything. The X5 3.0 does get better gas mileage however.:D

I have a 2006 Cayenne S, which replaced a 2002 4.4 X5.
The X5 could couldn't hold a candle to the Cayenne. After driving a friend's Cayenne S, I sold my X5 in a matter of weeks and bought the Cayenne. I drink the Porsche Kool-aid all the way. Now, however, I' considering the X5 (5.0) once again because of the HP, great 0-60 time, and sticker which is 15-20K less than a similarly equipped CS. Where the Cayenne really separates itself is in its cornering ability. I'll be interested to see how the 5.o corners. If they've impoved that I may take the leap. |
