Hey guys, I am very new to the site, and also to BMW's. I just recently recieved this car for free from a family friend. It is a 1984 318i. It was bought in Germany brand new in '84 and then shipped to the U.S. where I have it now. It has the M10 Fuel injected motor.

There is a few things that I want to adress of the back as far as modification wise, but I will have to take things slowly though. I have replaced the water pump, all of the radiator hoses, new thermostat, new plugs, new wires, new cap and rotor, new fuel pump, I will be purchasing a mishimoto aluminum radiator made for a S14 but will work fine in my car.

I have also swapped out the stock rear drums for a set of discs off a '91 325i. My car already came with a 3.91 LSD from the factory. The interior is in very good condition beside the two fronts seats that were in terrible condition. So I threw them away and bought new Corbeau Forza seats, I will be purchasing new harnesses for them as well.

Racing seats are there because my stock seats were all ripped up bro. Why waste money on buying just as old stock seats from someone then to wisely spend my money on seats I will have more use for?

Also if you think that spending your money on just upgrading your motor to make more power is gonna make you fast on a track, you are sadly misinformed. A good track car needs balance, I will gladly say that I will stomp you 6 into the ground with my stock M10 with a decent set of coilovers, balance first, also actually knowing how to drive your car correctly helps. power is nothing without control.

Quite nice to have the history and direct connection to the vehicle pick up, history and now in your hands. The seats are interesting.

Hey just an update as to how my rear bumper is going. I am still working on it, but I think I am done with the bumper end caps. I dont think I did too bad of a job considering its my first ever bondo use. anyway here are some pics.

Welcome! and nice 318! looks like you are off to a good start with the plastic bumper swap! Needs a clean iS lip to finish the front end up. And a drop, I am sure you will get to that in a bit.

Who cares! those are really nice racing seats. I would have not gone the fixed route, but still nice!
Good & Tight on R3V got over 350whp with his m10 turbo. So don't knock it!

noexceptions has a 325e...which is an m20.

I thought he had a 318iS, well my bad. I have a few e30 friends that I play with in H3 and got him and someone else mixed up.

that should be used to prove why NOT to use an m10.

he made 359whp on 27lbs of boost and a 75 shot of nitrous. he builds kits for a living so it was fully worked to its potiental. 27lbs of boost and only 359 hp ? good for an m10, but terrible as a general statement. he made 550whp with an m30 and no nitrous. modding an m10 doesnt yield good power.

For the record i officially own an M50 now...
unfortunately it might not ever leave the 325i that it currently resides in...

I didnt ever plan on building the M10, its pointless to me. But I do appreciate the guy trying to stick up for me. If you guys thought I have racing seats planning to upgrade the M10, you guys are funny. But of course suspension and brakes first always for me. then comes the power.

All I was saying is it can be done. And it is funny that you searched him and his builds.

ibve known about them for a long time. ive been around longer then you remember ;). i looked for the exact numbers so you couldnt bitch that i said 350 or something like that when its really 359. we all know you like to coomplain.

Jeezum cripes, all this over some seats? I totally agree with you First Time, much better than having some old torn up ones. What kind of driving have you got planned for the car?

Take it from someone who has some sun beat seats in his car, those seats are an improvement. Everyone should be able to appreciate any of the fine autos BMW has put out.(4 cyl included) Its not always all about going fast boys:)

Seriously, a bunch of children on this site.

I plan on doing road courses, here in california there are many track days at various tracks around my area. Also I am currently in SCCA and NASA. so that is where I will be going. Of course my suspension work will be done before i go.

Well its been a long while since i have updated this thread about my car. I did get around to fixing/replacing little things here and there that desperately needed attention and eventually got the car running. However when i took it around the block, it would hesitate and sort of miss up until about 2500rpm then it would accelerate normally. Pissed me off! So i started to try and track down what could be causing the problem.

While in the bay, i knew that there was caked on oil everywhere! And i do mean everywhere. How disgusting, so it started off with me just cleaning one wheel well to try and tidy things up, but then one thing led to another and now i have pulled the intake manifold off, pulled off all the accessory pumps and other misc things here and there. I swear the deeper i get into it the more stuff i find that is leaking or just plain old and brittle. The PO didnt take care of the car very well.

So my list at pelican parts has grown from a few items to many items with the bill well over a grand now. At the rate im going, i might end up doing a who rebuild as steve is doing now on his 325i.

I know you guys might wonder why im going through all the trouble for the lowly M10. Honestly, i just want to try and bring the car back as close to its original state as possible. So i can just DD it for awhile until i can save up some more money for future plans with it. I hate driving half working/sloppy looking cars in the first place. So here is my chance to "freshen" it up a bit. Im just replacing every seal and gasket i come across. Also some sensors have seen better days as well.
