Project: My AC Schnitzer E34 Touring

Hey guys

Check out my new touring i just picked up. I have found the need for a touring in my life after seeing countless modden E30 wagons. However i hate the design of the rear tailgate with its silly T shape and fixed taillights. After seeing an E34 Touring parked one day, i knew i had to have one and the search began.

3 weeks later, i had this in my driveway.

http://i707.photobucket.com/albums/w...i/HPIM0444.jpg

1993 BMW 520i Touring
Chassis done an amazing 16x,xxx miles, i cant believe it from the condtion
M52B20 Engine transplant done just over 60,000kilometers (Ex crashed E36)
Automatic, no plans to manual convert, you cant beat an auto for a cruiser
Lowered around 30mm (looks to me like more) on Vogtland springs, ride very nice
Has the split bootlid (glass can open seperately to tailgate) which is apparently rare
Authentic AC Schnitzer 17" Rims

Being 2L Auto, it likes to be driven slow, which is great for a daily and a cruiser, and also because im on 95 Demerits till July next year.

I know everyone says it, but they lie in comparison: Pictures do not do this car justice. I can quite honestly say, and not claiming, this is one of the most well looked after 10 year old + car. The paint was almost flawless when i picked it up except for a half dozen stone chips here and there. On the way back to wellington, a few more resulting from an a**hole truck driver failing to slow down for new seal and a lack of sign to warn me to drop back gave the front a few more and a chip in the windscreen. I will be getting all this replaced under insurance, ill just give it a month, i feel bad making a claim after taking out insurance the day before haha. When i went there, i was expecting this pile of crap to sit before me for the price i paid.

Enjoy :D i know i will!!

This is what happens when you leave your BMW E30 and your Volvo Touring in the garage over night together. Three months later, one of these pop out. (It takes after its mother for the most part, which is a good thing considering the father walked out)

I was thinking the same thing, i can hardly afford to put gas in the 1 E30 i have :flipoff:

_Ethrty-Andy_ 12-03-2010 12:37 AM

Haha well i have a full time job, plus i import/sell/trade BMW parts, 95% of which are E30 parts (used to buy whole cars and strip them, but i usually only deal with the rarer stuff now). I have other money making intrests as well, but they are my main incomes

So you're Steve, but with a real job.

Patrick 12-03-2010 05:17 AM

As a fan of any BMW Touring model, I have to say that you have a sweet ride there!

Last week, I parked next to a 1991 BMW M5 Touring. What a beast! I think that my E61 was a bit jealous!! :D

All the 3 series wagons from the E30 through to the E46 are awkwardly styled, its clear that the wagons were an afterthought. the 5 wagons look like thier own model though imo, the lines work as well as the sedans. in fact i think the E34 wagon looks better than the sedan tbh, but thats just me. Cant beat an e30 for a sedan this side of $5k

Id love an M5 touring. but cant have :( I want an M60 or M70 conversion for the wagon, i know a guy up north that has put an M70 (5L V12 for the unschooled) into his E34, goes like a cut cat and still automatic too

_Ethrty-Andy_ 08-10-2011 04:41 AM

So i miss posting on a build thread, and seeing as i havent done it for a while and im reading everyone elses tonight, ill do an update on this car

But before that, to anyone that doesnt already know, My M52B28 E30 is no more. the car simply developed too many problems and i brought a house that needed/needs work, so i decided to bite the bullet and sell up. Have kept a journal over the lifetime of the car of costs, and have got that back so far and still have a few E30 goodies, including the complete engine conversion from radiator to the back of the driveshaft. But bits were sold with the intention of the next E30 either already being built, or being an M3 so my parts are useless anyway, and will eventually all be gone.

So this has taken that cars space really as the pride and joy, but it doesnt get the same stupid amounts of money dropped on it week in week out. Havent got many photos, as so far the work on this car has been specialty work such as painting so i havent got progress pics, and the camera really doesnt bring it up. So text instead, photos of the car today at the bottom

When the stones were being removed under insurance, the discovered a chip in the window. So they pulled out the window and found some cancer due to a dodgy repair in the past under there. uh oh i though, dont tell me this is rusty too!! As fate would have it, it ended up being a god send that the window got cracked, or else i wouldnt have found it and it would have been a much bigger problem 5 years down the track.
So had that cut out and redone, and, seeing as the car was seeing the paint booth anyway, though **** it, the car can get the roof repainted. Didnt really need it, but seeing as they colour match anyway......

I then was content with the car for a while, but i knew as well as you do it wouldnt stop there.

Next up, i found a 525iX locally, which had cream leather seats with wood grain inserts. I dont like the combo on most cars, but think it looks sexy on the calypsotrots. swapped interiors with the ripped cloth in this car and flicked the iX for a profit. im a whore lol.

Then i decided that the curbing on the wheels was not on, so i had those repaired, and though **** it, ill paint them darker while im at it. We took about an hour to come up with a colour i was happy with, the painter was quite relieved in the end haha

Then i found a personalized (vanity) plate for cheap on trademe and brought that: MSPEC1. doesnt really suit the car, but for the price i got it for, it will do for now.
http://i707.photobucket.com/albums/w...13714_full.jpg

Then i found a 525i locally that had the full AC Schnitzer treatment with a shot transmission. Original plan was to replace that and flick it for 10 times the price. But then i decided why not strip it and put all the ACS bits into the wagon. This is all done except for the body kit which is at the paint shop now! Obviously flicked the bits i didnt want and got my money back lol.. you can see a trend with my buying patterns haha
http://i707.photobucket.com/albums/w...i/HPIM0447.jpg

So thats enough about that. Some pictures from a few weeks ago. Will put up photos with the kit on next week when i get it back. The car will also have the remaining paint defects and such removed, so should look like new! enjoy!

Whats next on the to do list?
Sort out headliner and while saving hard for a repower.

anstead610 08-10-2011 06:04 PM

Potenza huh?...expensive ass tires.

**** yeah! surprisingly this is the first set of tyres i have specifically gone through a catalogue and chosen that i have ever brought, ive never had cars long enough lol, and the rims i buy always have sport tyres on them. But im always a firm believer of good tyres, its the only thing holding you to the road and not floating away when you hit water/gravel/etc
Brigdestone RE001 too!

anstead610 08-11-2011 06:01 AM

When I had my Celica, I had 17x7.5-8" wheels, had Bridgestone Potenzas on it, and they were getting bald so I looked them up to replace them. Said **** that and just sold the wheels, then the car, then it was e30 time.

_Ethrty-Andy_ 08-23-2011 05:16 AM

So another report. I sold the M52 conversion from my E30 which has freed up a lot of cash. My head tells me I should really be putting this into the house, but thats progressing well enough to do without.

Should be getting the car back from the paintshop in the next few days, and then its off to Jon @ JKSouthern European to have the front brakes ripped out and replaced with brand new 540i bits, which are a lot larger than the existing stuff. BMW must have thought that 520i buyers werent worth saving lol. Again, a task i could fit myself, but its more cost effective to work and pay someone to do it for me, and i know im not going to get a **** job too as his services are excellent. In adition to 540i bits, it will also get braided lines so it really should be up to whatever i throw at it this side of 200km/h.

Have removed the MSPEC1 plate which will be for sale soon, and have put my ETHRTY plates back on the car. Okay the car is not an E30, but lets call it a tribute to the car that started the BMW passion in my heart. Also, seeing as its my handle on most of the forums, makes photos automatically copyright

Have also decided on what engine the car is going to be repowered with, though this wont happen just yet. I need the car for a trackday in september and also my brothers school ball (prom), which is going to leave a small window between that finishing and summer starting. Id rather be spluttering around with the paperweight up front than not at all over summer. that not to say it wont happen before then though

I promise next post will have photos in it and lots of them!

jfs356 08-23-2011 08:43 AM

Sweet ride, love the dark gray wheels and stance!

ACSchnitzer type 2's and not sure on cost on your side of the world sorry, but imagine they would be fairly common

_Ethrty-Andy_ 08-29-2011 06:27 AM

And shes in the paint shop! exciting!

_Ethrty-Andy_ 09-19-2011 10:26 PM

right for those that arent on my facebook, here are a few more photos of the car back from the paint shop, and also at an NZ BMW forum bimmersport.co.nz annual meet at the taupo motorsport park.

Body kit is a full genuine AC Schnitzer E34 S5 Touring kit.. very rare anywhere let alone little old New Zealand! Enjoy!
