Chrome Tailpipe/Exhaust

Yes, I've searched extensively. This issue has been discussed but no conclusive answer (of which I am aware) has been given.

I have a 2.8i which I will take delivery of on Wednesday. I've read in a couple of places that others who have taken delivery of their 2.8i have purchased the chrome tailpipes. What is the part number? My dealer claims there is none (but I suspect it is the same one that comes standard on the 3.5i).

Does ANYONE know???

I've seen a 35 next to a 28 at my local dealership. Neither one had chrome.

AzNMpower32 01-22-2011 09:01 PM

There is a BMW official accessory but I haven't been able to find the part number yet.

The xDrive35i comes with the chrome tips as standard, all other models do not.

It would seem to me as though the part for the 3.5i would be exactly what we need. The exhaust is no different from what I saw (I got underneath a 3.5i and a 2.8i to compare). The part is just two little chrome sleeves that fit over the two exhaust ports.

If the 35 really does come with chrome, you can have mine after I take delivery next month. I hate chrome.

Chinese Chrome Tailpipe

I ordered a Chrome tailpipe for my 20d on ebay and it arrived today. It cost 12.99 including postage and took just 6 days to deliver to Scotland.

At 12.99 it was worth a punt as if it is no good there is not much lost. First impressions is that it looks good enough and it fitted perfectly with a little help from a rubber mallet. It has 4 'grips' inside to keep it in position.

It is advertised as only for the 20i but the exhaust tailpipe is the same for the 20d and the BMW part number for the chrome tailpipe is the same for the 20d and the 20i.

You can find it here
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CHROME-STA...:X:RTQ:GB:1123

I'll repost if it fails.

Removing them might be tough since both are firmly anchored down by 4 pointed stabilisers

My 2011 28i has dual chrome tips. Are the chrome tips an option driven thing?

I just looked on the "2011 Model Year Package Overview" and did not see chrome tips associated with any package but they are certainly on my car.

Same here, but one of the pipes is dis colored. I would like to replace the tip if possible. I am going to the dealer tomorrow, I will ask about a replacement.

It did not arrive on our 2011 but certainly did on our 2013

missedbass 01-20-2014 04:18 PM

all the 28i's by me have stainless exhaust tips and the 35i's have the chrome tips over the stainless

jaceravone 01-21-2014 08:26 AM

My 2012 i28 did not have chrome tail pipes so I ordered them at the dealer. Last year it seems as though these were an available accessory through bmw but now I can't find them. My new 2013 i28 has them.

Chrome tips are readily available accessories. Even the originals sold by BMW are cheap especially if purchase in US. I suspect dealers may throw them in if you push hard enough. My X3 manufactured in Nov 2012 did not come with chrome tips. I got them in the UK for around GBP50 each. Fitting is easy as long as you line it up nicely with the exhaust pipes and give a few firm hits with the palm of the hands or a mallet. Like any chrome stuff, you need to polish them every now and then to keep the shine.

From BMW USA:

The 2013 X3 xDrive28i also receives 18" wheels, and chrome tailpipes tips previously standard only on the X3 xDrive35i.
