Z3 Tire Wobble Problem Solved

About 1000 miles ago I put on four new snow tires and wheels and recently began to experience steering wheel vibration. I thought the problem was that Tire Rack had not properly balanced my wheels. My local tire guy agreed. But when I told him one other fact he completely changed his diagnosis. I told him that the wobble does not appear right away when I start driving the car. It only kicks in after 5 or 6 miles. Right away he said, "I bet tire balance is not the problem. I bet it's a frozen caliper." And he was right. He pulled off a tire and found the caliper was the problem.

By the way, since he had the car up on the lift, I asked him to go ahead and check the tires for balance anyways. He did and reported that two were fine, and two needed balancing. I wish I had asked him how out of balance they were.

I thought I would post this info in case someone else has steering wheel wobble.

So you are saying that the car didn't pull one way or another due to the frozen caliper? If a caliper is frozen and is binding the brakes excessively, I would think that there would have been other symptoms affecting the steering. Tire wobble would not be one of them. Hmmmm, this is a new one for me.

Also noted pull to right

mhughett, you are quite right. There was pull to one side! It pulled to the right and the mechanic said the right front caliper was frozen. But is true, that once the mechanic heard that my steering wheel began to shake only after the car warmed up, that he jumped to the guess that it wasn't so much a tire out-of-balance as it was a frozen caliper. Why the frozen caliper would cause the steering wheel to shake after wam up is a bit beyond me.

I have the wheel wobble I can't feel it in the. Brake only in the wheel most strong at 40 mph I was wondering if I needed spigot rings even though my wheels are standard already tried 4 new tyres and that didn't work any ideas much aappreciated
