1983 BMW 320i, looking for experts

Sorry, mistype its 1982 (i could be wrong about the model, but i got the year from the VIN number)

My father works on imported cars, BMWs and benz the most, he has acquired a BMW with two plaques that indicate customization i think, one is next to the engine compartment under the hood.

it reads

Karasserie
BAUR
Stuttgart
and a serial number

The other is inside the cab on the passenger side in the dash.

It reads

ALPINA
B. Bevenslepen KG (low rez camera i could be wrong on that)

On the right of that same plaque is

Production
exclusiver automobile

there is a serial number on this one as well.

he is restoring it, overhauling the engine and other work, he asked me to do some research on his behalf because he is not good with the internet.

We both have our speculations but i would like some input please.

That may be an Alpina Baur. Most people think these don't exist. Check out this link as many experts have posted some good information about the topic. If it is authentic, it is vey rare. http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum....php?t=1802476

Please post as many pictures as you can. We'd love to see what it really is.

Please post up in the baur thread in the e-21 section of Bimmerforums if you haven't already we are trying to find as many baurs as we can in the USA. WHat is the Baur number on the plate? we can check to see if it's a known one or a new one.

Pictures of the car, Baur Tag and Alpina Plaque were sent to Tom.

I noticed the lack of basic Alpina parts and the screws that attach the Alpina plaque to the dash do not appear to be authentic. If it were a true Alpina, can you imagine a scenario wherein you'd replace the plaque screws? Nevertheless, the Baur appears to be in excellent condition.

I'm calling the owner this evening.
