Thrust Arm Replacement
Hi. This is my first article and I just wnated to say first that this forum has been extremely useful researching various info on my M5 which I bought 2 months ago. Like most new (to me) cars, I have a list of jobs I want to do.

First up is to replace the Thrust Arms as I'm getting brake judder through the steering wheel under braking. My local indy had it up on the ramp last weekend and there is play in the Thrust Arm bushes.

The car has 126k miles on the clock, so I thought it would make sense to replace the entire thrust arm on both sides, instead of just the bushes.

I'm going for Meyle units, which look to be a good replacemnt at a good price;

I've read numerous DIY articles on the procedure and have decided on doing the job myself. The only query that I still have is about loading the suspension before tightening the bushing bolts to the correct torque.

The following DIY article
says in item 10, that you need to add ballast to the car as if it was carrying four pasengers and luggage. It then mentions a procedure in the Bentley Manual?

As I don't have that much ballast kicking around my garage, or a family of four, I was wondering if there is any other way of doing this? Or alternatively what is the procedure in the Bentley manual? does it negate the need for the ballast???:dunno:

I know alot of people have done this job on the E39 and was hoping people could let me know how they managed this issue?
