Mini Dealer - Deals
Hi All,

I checked out a 2011 Mini Cooper S tonight and was a bit surprised that the dealers wanted MSRP. :dunno:

2011 Mini Cooper S
Chili Red
Premium Pkg
Sport Pkg
Total = 27,200.00

Dealer Options:
Paint Coating
3M Film protection (on bumper and doors)
Yadda Yadda Dealer Pkg
Total = 30,000.00

I told him I was not interested in the $3000 in options he installed on the car...I just wanted to pick up the car at a fair price ( is showing 25,500 for my area for that car). I was willing to go up to 26,000 but he said 28,000 was as low as he could go. This was because, from the dealer, Mini is not discounting any models except the Clubman. I expected that on the Countryman...but a 2011 Cooper S (with 2012 models on the way in a few months) and at the end of the month?????

Am I off base here or does Mini just tend not to deal? This was in Raleigh, NC.

MINI Corporate has nothing to do with it. It all depends on your area. My local dealer still puts 1995 mark up on their Clubmans.

I got my 09 for $1400 under msrp.

You should be able to do similar at years end.

Dealer called back today wanting me to come back. He still thinks that the invoice + $1000 is too low an offer on a 2011 Mini Cooper S.

I am baffled that MSRP plus $800 is a fair deal for this car.

kjboyd 07-25-2011 06:17 PM

if you can come down $1000 on MSRP, it's decent, but not great. tell him at that price he has to throw in floor mats and hood stripes.
also, go over to for a much more vibrant and user involved site.

So, what is a fair price? He came back with his cost sheet today.

I want a 2011 Mini Cooper S (Prem Pkg, Sport Pkg, Bluetooth) + Tax Title and tags. He says $28,000 is a fair price.

manual right? You get $500 "instant off" right now.

27,200 - 500 = 26,700. take off another $1000 (MSRP - $1,000) = 25,700.

and find another dealer.

645ilubu 07-27-2011 04:59 AM

Yes, manual transmission. Is there another kind? :D

Is the price you quoted OTD or before tax, title and tags?

kjboyd 07-27-2011 06:33 AM

That's just msrp. You'll have to figure taxes and title yourself. Usually your states DMV website will have a calculator.

645ilubu 07-27-2011 04:29 PM

That's perfect. I offered $25,500 plus tax, title and tags. The dealer laid out all of his costs (prep, full tank of gas, wear and tear, state inspection, etc)...essentially an additional $2000 he has put into the vehicle that he would like me to help pay. His stance is that MSRP only allows him to "break even" he needs about $1300 over MSRP.

I walked at that point.

kjboyd 07-27-2011 04:41 PM

What an idiot. That's HIS cost of doing business.

Where are you located?

kjboyd 07-27-2011 04:41 PM

Get a golf gti

Raleigh, NC

kjboyd 07-27-2011 09:31 PM

Limited dealers huh?

645ilubu 07-28-2011 05:04 AM

This dealer seems to own the rights to NC. He has one dealership in Raleigh and one in Winston Salem (Charlotte dealership is owned by a different dealer). My parents live in SC and there is a dealer in Charleston...I may check out what they have next time I am down.

kjboyd 07-28-2011 06:50 AM

start using email and contacting the internet sales person. that may be helpful. are you willing to drive further?

you really should post on people there can help point you to the right dealers and best pricing.

645ilubu 07-28-2011 04:07 PM

Thanks kjboyd. Yeah, the one at this dealer is a long story (saw it while helping a friend buy a car). I am dealing directly with the Sales Mgr at this point.

I'll probably hit up a few dealers in and around the state and neighboring states via and see what comes back.

I have posted the same thread on Good replies so far!

645ilubu 07-29-2011 04:32 PM

Dealer called back today. "Please, just $400 or $500 and we are there." :D

Unfortunately, I've been doing too much research the last 48 hrs.

HPFP issues
Oil leaks
Timing chain guide issues
Turbo issues

Are these things really that unreliable even on the 2nd generation? My mom has one that has been flawless, however it is 3 years old with 10k miles on it and never goes on the highway.

kjboyd 08-04-2011 09:14 PM

How goes the search?

Braman Mini in WPB, Florida sold their Mini's for $2300 over. Had LoJack, stripes, some other bullshiit. The salesperson was REAL good(great talker) but not good enough. We shopped and bought elsewhere.

645ilubu 08-06-2011 07:13 PM

I have stopped the search for now. I called a dealer in Charlotte and one in SC....pretty much the same deal. MSRP on a 2011...I'll pass for now.

Ace88 09-03-2011 08:48 AM

Dealer in Charlotte are real unprofessional. They've been playing the "our cars are HOT" card since opening. To tell you how full of $hit they are go there and act like your interested in any one on the lot and I'll bet you seriously $50 that they tell you it's sold.

I'd rather walk then give Hendrick Mini my business.
