New 2007 Alpina B7 owner checking in!

Hello All!

New to these boards (mostly) and now the proud owner of my first BMW (albeit a gently used and slightly modified one) whom I've now taken to calling Hildy, short for Brunhilde - the famous Valkyrie and more notably recognizable from Wagner's Ring Opera mostly portrayed as a err... big girl which I thought fitting for the car as she packs quite a wallop!

Did a bunch of lurking on here and in the other parts of the board and it helped a ton.

Cheers and see you all around!

(Oh and sadly my sigpic is from the previous owner as I keep forgetting to take a pic when I'm out with her!)

That B7 looks great! Congrats! Let's see some more pics when you get the chance, maybe a few interior shots.

1bad540 08-16-2011 10:17 AM

where in Nyc are you?? I love the alpinas as well.. warranty on it?

grtwht 08-16-2011 10:17 AM

What a choice for your first BMW - beautiful!
From private seller or dealer?
Make sure you get a warranty for her - repairs are not cheap on a B7
And welcome aboard!

Welcome to the club, she's a beauty!

DuffyMcPatzer 08-17-2011 07:42 AM

Thanks everyone! I'm in the city so she won't get taken out that often but nonetheless I got an extended warranty on her based on recs off the board and other research. Hopefully it won't get used! She was basically babied and came to me with less than 24K miles so I'm hoping I won't have any problems. Good news is I have all the service papers on her going back to the original import sticker.

My only concern (as with all B7s) are the wheels, they look great but I worry about the low profile tires going south once a I hit a pothole. It looks like a lot of people are riding on lower profile tires based on the pics so I may be over thinking it. I don't see myself needing to drive her that much in the winter, but I'm thinking of getting the Alpina winter set up which is only 19" I believe.

When I get a chance I'll post up some more shots including some interior shots when I remember to take them! Cheers!

Welcome! I absolutely love, love, love this car and enjoy every minute driving it and am sure you will too!

I also spent a lot of time over-thinkg things with this car but I am used to it now. I have a set of winters for it that are on the 18" rims from my 745. My spare is 18" also. The dealer's suggestion for winter package was 245-50-18. I haven't yet decided whether or not I'll be driving it in the winter though.

And a valid concern. First thing is check the size on your front tires. I've seen several with the wrong size (sidewall too thin...). In fact, not long after I bought my B7 I bent one of my front wheels after driving through a construction zone where the pavement was torn up in front of a bridge and the lip bent my wheel! Didn't dawn on me the tire size might be wrong b/c what moron would put a thinner sidewall on the car intentionally? Well, some moron did! It's supposed to be a 245/35 and my car had a 255/30. If you have the right tire size and what where you're going you should be fine. I pushed the reset button and bought a new set of wheels and tires to get a fresh start on mine. Good luck.
