Changing Steering wheel to multi function steering

:confused:Hi peeps,

I am wondering if anyone can advice me on what is required if i wanna change my BMW 1 series 116i to a multi steering wheel so i can control my music on the steering.

I rang BMW to find out if it was a straight swap but they said i have to change everything i.e wiper stalk, indicator stalk , etc

Has anyone done this swap before?

Please can anyone shed some light on this for me.
