Mechanically good, cosmetically challenged E28 535i

Looking at a used 87 535is (not many of those around). I haven't been in BMW market in a long time, but a local one caught my eye. Car has 160k mi, is mechanically and electrically sound, everything works. Motor runs strong (do these big sixes ever actually die?), shifts well (5 sp), brakes good, no shuddering or weird suspension stuff going on. Radiator looks new, and it had a new clutch last year.

Interior is basically completely worn out, could be driven as a daily, but it looks like hell, the sports seats are disintegrating (but all motors work). It needs carpets, and new leather on seats. It looks its age.

Exterior paint is a navy bluish, and completely faded and oxidized. The body is straight, and has not been hit. There is rust starting around the rear bumper mounts, and it will need to be addressed at some point. The window rubber and trim is all there, but faded and weather worn. There appears to be no other rust issues.

The car is basically sound, and everything works. It has had some "upgrades", Bilstein shocks and H&R springs (I don't think these cars really need these mods, they drive great stock IMO).

Asking price is around $4200, I think the asking price is a bit high after seeing other cleaner ones go for less. The interior needs to be ripped out, chucked and replaced before I could drive it for too long. Anyone got opinions on what they would pay for a car like this?

thanks for any insight
