BMW extended warranty?
Has anyone taken advantage of the BMW extended maintenance warranty? It costs about $2000 for an additional 50,000 miles and covers breaks, oil changes, belts, etc. Anyone know how this compares to getting these things done elsewhere? What do oil changes run? Brakes?
Thanks for your help!

This has been discussed and most people have said that it is unlikely you would spend $2,000 for maintenance in the extra 2 years covered. These things are profit items for the dealership.

3 oil changes @ 100 = $ 300 (probably only 2 if milage less than 45k)
1 Inspection @ 200 = $ 200 (at 60k miles)
Brakes - 4 wheels = $1,200 (if rotors also need replacing)

Total (maximum) = $1,700

So at best you will be out $300. If you don't require brakes, the penalty would be $1,500.

And the above maintenance costs less if performed by an Indy or DIY.

Is the warranty strictly for maintenance or does it cover transmission engine problems and such well. If it does cover then other might be worth it. Again its like insurance you may use the value of money you spend on it or you may not. But if buying that warranty helps you sleep in peacevit may be worth it.

My e66 has 36k on it. It's out of warranty. Just did the front brakes w/ rotors (they always replace them) -$855. Did an oil change -$114. Did the brake fluid flush - $114. Rear brakes are good but will need to be done in a while. Also replaced the cabin microfilters myself but got an estimate of$160. I think $2000 is not a bad deal especially if things go wrong like maybe a window motor goes or something like that.

There are 2 different things, extended maintenance and extended warranty. The former only covers maintenance. If a window motor went out or the transmission you'd need the latter or you'd be paying.
