Info on recoding a used key & remote inside's
 

I decided to open up a used key I bought .
I will post pics to show you a common
problem with some of your buttons
not working . I will also point out the chip
you need to change so you can have the
key / remote Re-Coded for your car .
1st pic - button that broke loose from sauder .
2nd pic - spot button belongs
3rd & 4th pic - housing
5th pic - chip you need to replace so you can have a used key Re-Coded

I opened mine couple months ago to change the battery...just wanted to mention that no initialization is required after changing the battery....worked straight away.

I was not aware that this could be done? This should be added to the DIY!

wow very good find, how are you going to program the key? and will you be able to program it as key #1 again?

i DON'T HAVE THE PROGRAM OR HARDWARE NEEDED , SO I WON'T BE PROGRAMMING IT .
BUT IF YOU KNOW SOME 1 THAT HAS THE GT1 UNIT I WAS TOLD IT COMES WITH
THE HARDWARE ( KEY HOLDER ) NEEDED . I HAVE ALREADY TALK TO SOME 1 HERE IN L.A.
THAT CAN PROGRAM THE KEYS .& HE SAID HE THINKS HE CAN ADD IT AS KEY 1 .

Im in the LA area as well, let me know if he can program the key for you, also- Do i need to buy the key transponder as well, or the second link to the bmw key itself is good enough ?

you can just buy the key in the second link .
I am not getting any key's made , i was just
looking into the possibilities of re-coding
a used key . The guy who i have talked to
has done several new key's for a friend .
So im sure he can still do a key for you .

Thank god i have 3 sets of key fobs

I need a spare key made and have my original key fixed. The unlock button does not work. It feels like a broken piece underneath the actual unlock button. Can you send me the contact information for your buddy who could/would make a replacement? Thanks for your help!
