Spoiler Or No Spoiler

My DGM II 550i is due in to the dealer this week. I've been waffling back and forth on getting a same color spoiler. The main problem is that there are so few examples to look at in person - I've seen exactly one, a carbon fiber on AW and it was tough get a sense of the look.

For some reason my dealer wants over $500 for an unpainted spoiler, then even more money to paint and install, even though I pointed out I could order an already painted version online for under $400. Oh well, they are happy to install one that I order myself.

Anyway, what do y'all think - spoiler or no spoiler... please post pictures if ya got 'em.

I thought according to the 5 Series brochure that the spoiler came with the M-Sport package but I was wrong, I never saw it as an option to order either or was informed that it was.

In Canada, the spoiler is part of the M sport package.

I got a carbon fiber spoiler off eBay. I did a local pickup $170 cash. I put it on myself with some double sided tape and it looks just like the $500 one at the dealer! I have it on my alpine white and I love it. I think it might be like $189 free shipping on eBay.

No spoiler. Yuck.

You gotta spoil it. No spoiler = plain jane. :thumbdwn:

I had a carbon spoiler on my 2011 DG I. Looked great. Perfect color combination The dealership used automotive adhesive instead of two sided tape since it is a little larger than the M spoiler.

I have a painted M spoiler on my 2012 CB. I like the smaller size of the M spoiler, a little more subtle.

Here are a couple of pics of the carbon spoiler on the DG, sorry not very clear.

Cool... post some photos.

I dropped my car off today for my Dinan work. While they're at it, I'm having them put on the standard M5/M-Sport spoiler painted Alpine White. The package in my opinion should definitely come with it. Not sure why it doesn't. I'll post pictures when I get the car back.

nhs156 02-27-2012 07:10 PM

I would personally go for no spoiler. I had a spoiler on my first car at 18, but have since grown up :) Sorry, couldn't resist.

I'm looking forward to hearing what you have to say about Dinan. I am torn on that one.

I am not feeling the spoiler mod, I think the F10 rear looks nicer without it IMHO

wdimagineer 02-27-2012 07:57 PM

It's personal preference, but it's small enough that it doesn't take away from the design of the rear of the vehicle in my opinion. I've had them on every recent car I can remember so I suppose I'm biased and used to the look by now.

Bmw spoiler looks great

If I was grown up, I'd buy a sensible, reliable car.

dunderhi 02-28-2012 03:28 AM

I decided to pass on the spoiler.

Chuck W. 02-28-2012 07:33 AM

I had an M5 spoiler on my E60. IMHO it was just right. I want to see the F10 spoiler in person.

Heck I have a carbon fiber rear wing on one of my cars! I guess I refuse to grow up.

I would go with whatever makes you happy!

Hey Tiger, didn't you get a DGM II/Cinnamon? How you liking it - I saw it at the dealer and was tempted to change... Looked great... But stuck with the DGM/ Nappa oyster-black. Should be in in a couple more days.

Tiger Pilot 02-29-2012 11:02 PM

I did, I'm lovin' it man! I get a lot of positive comments when people see the interior, really goes well with the DGM II. Only semi-regret is not going with the ceramic controls. Love the car, makes this Austin traffic a little easier to deal with...put it in sport, click the shifter to the left, and I can poke my way into small openings in Mopac, SoCo, or DT I35 traffic...or dart my way around the lines of left lane squatters on the way down and back from San Antonio...a hell of a lot easier than I could in my Avalanche, that's for sure! Just have to watch it because before I know it, there's 90+! I can't imagine what the 550 is gonna be like in that regard...congrats on your arrival, have fun!

Mine was installed the other day after a few paint matching attempts. I think it looks good. Very similar to the spoiler that was on my M3 from the factory.

PeterC4 03-18-2012 03:43 PM

here's a pic - comes standard in Canada

I haven't moved forward with this yet - decided to live with it a few weeks, then make the call. It's a spectacular looking car either way. The DGM II/oyster black nappa rocks... I guess it better, since that's what I picked.

alex_c 03-18-2012 07:03 PM

I love the looks of my M-Sport with the Spoiler:
