Window Anti Trap warning simple fix
So today I got into my car after work and the stupid chime that I hate so much went on to tell me something other than its cold out... I got a "Window Anti-Trap Function Disabled" warning... So I did what most probably do and shut the car off and restarted... no luck. I tested my windows to see what was going on and found that the drivers side front window would go down automatically but would only come up if I held the button up manually. Normally if I pull the button up all the way and let go the window will come up on its own.

To make a long story short I searched the forums I frequent and found a few differing methods of resetting or initializing the anti trap function... tried a few, while driving and here is the one that worked...

With the window up all the way, hold the button down while lowering the window and continue holding it down for 5 seconds after the window hits bottom. Immediately raise the window by holding the button up all the way for 5 seconds after the window hits the top... Thats it. I was skeptacle but it worked!

Hope this helps.

Very Interesting! You can find my post "window rear", etc, etc. It sounds to me...although I will have to read it again...that you preformed the initializing procedure, or pretty close to it. (I read the procedure the other day in my manual.) I have been having a similiar problem (view my post), but I will now look at this "anti-trap"; never heard of it, saw it, don't think I want to.

Ding, Ding, Ding. Outside Temperature 37.

I hate that too. Glad I don't have children asleep ever in the back seat.

Thanks for the heads up. Never know what warnings show up on these cars.

I was pissed when I got the warning! I'm glad through these forums I was able to find a fix... A lot of the crap I read was just that, crap. That's why i figured I'd post what worked for me. Now if I could just figure out why it happened in the first place......

My passenger side window is pretty messed up the control on that side only works when you push down trying to put it up won't do anything only on the driver side and also it makes a nasty noise going up or down can't really describe it but yes not good

H F 05-05-2015 11:36 AM

Sounds like it could be the motor going out ..

Window Trap Warning
I noticed the driver side window will not close all the way, I had to keep pressing the
power button until it reached the fully closed position, I then proceeded to hold the
button up for 5 seconds and then the Warning disappeared !

Great tip!
It worked on my 2012 X3. Since the warning doesn't let you know which window I started with the driver front, passenger front, driver rear and that is when the warning light disappeared so I did the other rear for the hell of it. Thanks for the tip.

Omg thanks
My window was doing exact same, had that little window icon on the dash with the explanation mark and window would not go down a tad when opening and closing door. Just read this dvice from you and was like "Nah... No way!". Just went out to my car literally 3 secs ago and it bloody worked. Thanks so much. Thought my window motor was broke nd had to pay a mechanic a visit. Cheers. You've saved me time and money :)

Window trap warning
So here we are 5 years later and it's still worked on my 2008 530d. Initially it didn't work so if it's also failed for you then try the following slightly adjusted process that incorporates some information from other posts.
Lower the affected window until fully open. Release the button. Then hold the button down for a minimum of 15 seconds but no more than 20 seconds.
Raise the window to the top and release the button. Then hold the UP button down for a minimum of 15 seconds but no more than 20 seconds.
Hope this helps.
