Boosted Tuning for BMW's
I am a new owner to bmw, and my e36 325i, I am just wanting to know from the people that are boosted, what means of tuning they are using?
What is the most commonly used/easiest means of tuning used in bmw's?
My long term goal for my car is 350-400rwhp, but I won't be able to even think about this for a year or two so in that time I want to research and learn as much as I can.
Thanks ahead of time for any info that you all can share
its unfortunate that no one has replied to you. here is my thread on my the turbo kit I made my self. good luck. http://forum.e46fanatics.com/showthread.php?t=806066
I might not be the most credible source but basically there isn't much in the way of tuning methods for BMW. The general concensus is that megasquirt and vems are your best options for engine management, but there have been whispers of safc's being used. I think you have obd1 not obd2 which makes things easier, but you will have to ask someone else about that.
I know of only the few that had used a m52/4 engine to run MS3. Its not for the faint at heart. you have to understand that EMS's like mega squirt may be cheap solution saving you money, but you have ALOT of R + D to get the engine to be happy (switching sensors over to GM, etc) and even more time into keeping the dash lights off (SEL, DSC,yellow brake light etc.) again depending if this car is used as street car or track and/or if you don't care about those things. after thinking about these variables and overcoming them, you would obtain an extra DME and connectors to make your own piggy back to "try" and keep the DME happy by controlling the dash, and various sensors. I was going to personally take this route due to tight budget, but after looking at what I said above, no way. Realistically it would take a year to figure out the EMS to work decent with the DME, and thats if you know your stuff, according to a guy who swapped a m54 into a e30 who ran MS.
Other option is to get your stock ECU tuned, I know a guy in NY-NJ area who actually can do this, other than the "nick g" guy in FL who is a joke. here is the info http://www.f1tuning.com contact

OR you can go with Pro EFI, which is the best EMS that I know of, and is Plug N Play, has alot of features, and it can keep all the warning lights in the dash OFF! I'm currently runing it now, Great EMS. it may be a little pricey up front but well worth in the long run.
There's no hacks for the older obd1?
