You're running a 225/40 tire on a 10" wide rim? Does that even fit? Please post a picture.

Wouldn't you be looking at 275 or 285 tire for a 10" rim?

tires

sorry no pics of tires on wheels, but yes they fit and look good have been on car since 2005.The tires have 18000 miles on them they are showing wear on the outside rubber and are starting to show sighs of dry rot,but I cant complain as they are eight year old conti sports that came with the car new back in 2004.I put bbs rg734s on front and rg773s on the rear and they are stamped with sizes the fronts say 18/8.5 and rears are stamped 18/10 .... So what you are saying has me all messed up.But thanx for the help I will just go to a tire store to get this fixed

sorry just went out an looked 255/40zr18 on rear 225/45zr18 on front need glasses LOL
so now that I have that straighted out how wide of a tire do you think I can run
without stickin to far out the wheel well

thanx mike

You can definitely step up your tire sizes with no issues! Most people run 245/35 and for the front 275/30

I prefer 265 all around. Less understeer.

265 on a 8.5 rim?

Pinecone 03-24-2012 05:24 AM

Actually I run a set of 4 rears now. :)

I was pointing out that maybe so much stagger is not what you want.

But the standard quoted min rim width is 9", so you aren't far off. You could run 255 all around or 255/265 setup. Or at least a 245/265 setup versus the 245/75 setup that gives lots of understeer. These cars don't have enough power to need that much stagger.

I would like to thank you for your input.I would like to tell you what I have and what I propose to do. I have a 2004 M3 with after market BBS wheels the sizes are as follows
18 by 8.5 wheels in the front tires are 225/45ZR18 ///////// 18 by 10 wheels in rear ///////// tires are 255/40ZR18 Now what I was thinking of doing is putting 255/40XL18 tires in the front and 275/35XL18 in the rear What do you think ????????
