"The fifth generation M5 will compete for the new 'Showroom Stock' recognition within the Luxury Sedan class at One Lap of America, which serves as the perfect opportunity to demonstrate its performance capabilities as well as those of the BMW Performance Center instructors," said Dan Gubitosa, BMW Performance Center Manager. The new BMW M5 will arrive in authorized US BMW Centers in August of 2012. In addition, the BMW Performance Center will be providing the One Lap of America staff with official vehicles for 2012.

If you don't know about One Lap of America read the hilarious description of the event on their site -
Quote:

Nearly twenty-four hours a day driving with competition taking place as time trials on race tracks throughout the country. The event, as it always has been, is foremost one of endurance and vehicle preparation. No support crews are allowed. The tires that are used on the street are the same ones that are raced on (one set per team).

It is great to see BMW participating in this type of event. This is a grass roots event that should show off BMW's motorsport strengths. Who else thinks the M5 is going to dominate?

The only thing that worries me is this: "The tires that are used on the street are the same ones that are raced on (one set per team)" ;) Tires not being the forte of the F10's

I'd be more interested if they were doing it in a ten year old car with 100,000 miles on it. Anybody can hit the green from the fairway. It takes an athlete to get there from the woods.
