Oil Pan drain plug leak
I have a 2001 X5 3.0 and my mechanic was doing and oil change and he noticed that the drain plug is not tight enough because of the thread of the oil pan itself is screwed up from usage after usage and/or overtightening I guess. And, now I have an oil leak. Is there a solution to this problem without changing the oil pan? Do I need to re-thread the hole in the oil pan? If so, what size "threader" should I use for this? Anything else I might know before performing this work? Thanks.

I would suggest getting a rubber grommet that fits over the oil plug as a temporary fix until you can get the pan replaced. You do not want to drill as there would be fragments that the oil filter would have issues picking up. Replacing the pan though is the best solution.

Oil Pan drain plug leak
You might want to check the plug itself. I had the same problem and had someone look at it and noticed that the last ones who changed my oil used another plug (looks like they dropped my plug into the oil drum). My 01 has 1 inch of threads in the pan. The shallow plug that they used stripped the first 4 threads in my pan. So I bought the original plug and all is well.
