19" tire wear on 550GT

I have a significant problem with tire wear on my 2010 550GT with 19" tires and sport package. The Pirelli P Zero tires have 19K miles on them. The outside edges of both front tires are showing very uneven feathering. Every third tread block has a sharp raised edge. The problem only appears on the outside edges, and the car is properly aligned.

I took the car to the dealer and they said this was normal wear for a 550GT with staggered tires. The rear tires show similar but less pronounced wear patterns. This results in an annoying vibration in the steering wheel a lower speeds, which is lessen noticeable at higher speeds. The tires still have 6/32 of tread, but the dealer says they need to be replaced to solve the vibration.

Have other 550GT owners with the staggered setup experienced similar tire wear results?

My 2011 with sport package cane with the same 19" tire front and back.Goodyear Eagle LS (run flat) 245/45 R19 all season.

My 2010 550GT was an early "Launch Supply" car. It came with some option configurations that changed as the model year wore on. It has the 19" sport package which came with staggered tire sizes. I am sure the sport package option changed during either the 2010 or 2011 model year runs.

I forgot to mention that I have 245/45/19 front and 275/40/19 rear Pirelli P-Zero. Dealer says the wear is normal because the tires can not be rotated front to rear. I say BMW did not purposefully design a car that chews through tires like this. There is still lots of tread left, but the outside tread blocks are scalloped, cupped, feathered, I am not sure of the correct term. IT is very uneven wear, but there is a definite pattern to it. It looks like every other tread block has a raised edge.

No issue at 15,000 miles

I have not issues with same tires, sport package on 535iGT 2011.
Will watch VERY closely however, tks for the heads up.
I have the same rated tire on a Volvo XC70, several sets of tires in my history and they can be rotated. Some lasted 18,000 some made it to 30,000 with same driver. Who knows??

Wtmeyer,

All BMW in my family does that some how... I was told it the way it's setup, but I might be wrong.....

even you can't rotate them... but you can still switch them from left to right...

I do that every 5000 miles.... it helps alot you can give that a try next time

swap sides every 5000

Interesting, dealership told me that was not acceptable
2011 535i GT sport package.
or should i say stealership??
may take mine out right now for a swap
I have 17,500 and see no issues at this point; i have the pzero as well

Not sure on those tires, but if they're directional, you can't swap side to side without remounting on the rim.

Many of the options use different sized f/r wheels/tires. On mine, they're the same all round, and I do swap front/rear. They do seem to be wearing evenly so far.

So you guys think I should swap left to right with my staggered Michelin PS A/S+?

TIA

Gmblack.

I don't think you can do it on the all season....

All season are direction tires, the point of your arrow must be facing front, because it needs to cut through water...

But performance tire don't need to worry about that, let me post some photos for you

The last two photos are pilot super sport, as you can see you can rotate those from left to right with out issues, but using all season tires, you can't do that, it just the way the tread is setup
