just a few pics to start. picked up on friday at the PCD and drove 1150 miles back home. lots of highlights that include tail of the dragon, foothills parkway, blue ridge parkway, skyline parkway. etc. etc.

more detail as well to come but the short story is..... i'm in love.

Where do you get the reflectors to replace the yellow ones? Tischer?

Congrats on the car! I'm booked for 6/13 PC redelivery... time seems to have stopped...

the PC delivery is fantastic, i was really surprised at HOW GOOD some of the roads around there are. DO NOT miss the tail, foothills pkway, or blue ridge pkway if they should be along your route.

I know all to well what you mean first hand - especially after a DINAN tune on the N63TTV8. I will say this. Once you get past the initial break in period and you have the chance to run the S65 up past 7 grand, and see those shift lights illuminate on your way to 8200-8300 on the tach - you'll never be the same again. Nothing in BMW's current lineup gives imparts the same feeling/sound.

Do I miss the feel of the N63 TTV8 with DINAN? yes, but honestly the E9X M3's are "1 of 1", and unlike anyother:)

I find myself cracking up at the fact that this "smallish" coupe has a V8, I now the MB fanboys will say the same about their "C" cars. But IMHO the M3 feels more special and purpose built - I guess I should go grab a fire extinguisher and put my flame-suit on:rolleyes::D

purpose built, that's the right way to describe it. and i was fortunate enough to get through the break in process within 3 days, took it out on the FDR last night and lit up my shift lights.

highyo - enjoy! Good you got in on the last NA M car - may not be anything like that engine again. It is the best M car yet and as you know, it is in a league of its own and more a complement to the F10 then a competitor.

i think PCD is the way to go especially for my geography as i am about 1150 miles away from home. picked it up on fri, home by sun, breakin service done by wed, and now we are locked and loaded!!!

it is truly a wonder car. i think its massively mispriced

Imo you now own the best and the "worst" car in BMWs current lineup. Congrats to entering the world of emotionally connected motoring.

Why do you say the 5 is the worst? Or am I missing the joke?

I put worst in quotation marks since even if I think it deserves a jumbo position in BMWs lineup it's still better than most cars on the road today. It's not a bad car, in fact it's a really good car and beautiful as well. However all BMWs are imo drivers cars except the F10 and the F01 which are passenger cars, I.e they offer great comfort, tech gizmos and a luxurious ambience, a very nice place to be while eating miles but they offer little of driver excitement. I like drivers cars and the five used to be a very fine drivers car with the E39 and E60. The 7 has always been a passenger car and it does this duty slightly better than the 5 without being any less numb and isolated. Hence the 5 brings up the rear in my books.

It's a little like selecting the "worst" of the Victoria Secret's models. She's a disappointment to the fortunate few who has their pick of the best but would make the majority exctatic. When it comes to cars I've been spoilt that's the main reason I couldn't warm up to my F10, not that it's a bad car.

There have been some heated debate over the F10 among some of the participants here (including hiyo, solstice, etc.). I think solstice even traded in his "lemon" 550i and got himself an M3 instead.

The F10 is a good luxury car, but not a very traditional BMW from the driving dynamic POV. Not the "Ultimate Driving Machine" that BMW made itself famous for.

while i by no means agree with the f10 losing its soul or being the worst car in the lineup, i can see why others would, and keep in mind i have done some significant mods (dinan supension, dinan stage 2, non-run flats, etc) to get the car to where i want it to be. the irony is this, i will probably drive the M3 much slower than the 550i because that car is so substantial and isolated, you have to push it to it's limits. and the limits are so high! who knows, maybe a little less noise reduction, a little less weight (i know dunder has put BBS on the corners and says it feels much lighter) and a little less comfort on the inside (jeez the interior of the 550 is really really good) and guys will start enjoying it more.

all i know is this, i havent driven my 550 since i got the M car. and i think that says it all

Exterior and interior pics....and given your fantastic return trip home - some pics and your opinion of the "Tail" - please.

I frequently drive in the Blue Ridge and Alleghenies, and never grow tired of the mesmerizing scenery or challenging roads, that I sometimes think were created especially for M3 drivers! (BTW I have never driven the Tail.)

+1 Yep....after seven months, I look for excuses to go driving. I still sport a huge grin every time I push the start button and blip the gas...every time is like the first time....vrooommmm!:D

i have to get them up, we had 3 cameras going (my phone, wifes phone, big camera) and i have yet to get them to my computer, i will include what i have now although many pics are not as good as the ones from the big camera.

the tail is epic. i mean epic. it is one of the most unique roads i have ever been on. 300+ turns in a few miles. the weather was perfect that day as well. unfortunately i was still very much in the break in so i couldnt go bananas on the throttle and the downshifts, suffice to say, it is truly a remarkable road. lots and lots of bikers and a bunch of guys with professional camera equipment selling pics of you driving by.

some pics are are duplicates but should get it started! i promise when i get these up they will be added to this thread!

some locales for each pic:

m3.5 is right outside my apt (note the NYG superbowl sticker on the left drivers side door)
m3.4 is at the bottom of manhattan right by the SI ferry. i just had the grilles blacked out here
m3.2 is outside of the hand wash in beautiful fort lee.
m3.3 is outside my apt again
m3.7 is at the biltmore, wow what an impressive "house" (more like castle) that is. cameo of my wife's head
m3.6 is at the PCD that is probably the cleanest the ZCP wheels ever will be. they are so beautiful.

btw i can't get enough of jerez black. it is totally not black. but sometimes it totally is.
