Steering Wheel Electrical Switch?

I have a 2001 X5 that I purchased used last year. I was so in love with it that I overlooked the obvious issue of the horn, cruise control and steering wheel radio controls not working. Is there an easy fix to this? I thought there might be an electrical switch in the steering wheel that I could replace myself. My husband is very handy and replaced the battery when it died after one month of use! So I thought maybe there would be an equally easy fix for this. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

WELCOME!
Sound like a "clock spring" problem. This is a coiled wiring loom in a housing at the top of the steering column and all the steering wheel controls plug into it. The coiled wires allow the wheel to turn in each direction and still pass the signals on into the vehicle.
The steering wheel/airbag/etc. would need to be removed to allow fitting once you establish this is the problem. Given the age of the vehicle and the cost of $tealer diagnostic charges it might just be better to buy a new "clock spring" and fit/have it fitted and see if the problems disappear.
GL.

Thank you!! I will look into having my husband do that for me. I can't wait to see if that fixes the problem. :)

Do you know if replacing the clock spring worked? I have the same issue with my 2001 x5
