I'm feel'n it. :D What do you think? :dunno: Anyone want to buy my stock kidneys? ;)

Needsdecaf 08-02-2012 04:49 PM

Love the look. ;)

TJPark01 08-02-2012 07:01 PM

Looks great, but the difference is so subtle no one would ever notice.

EIAlfonso 08-02-2012 09:25 PM

It's an M5, Congrats!

Looks good, go with it

ItsTheNewGuy 08-02-2012 10:28 PM

Looks great! What's the price on the M5 grills?

Looks really good - that's one of the changes I've considered for mine. Its a small change but it can really change the front-end look.

I threw away the receipt without even looking that close. I think it was about $80 for each side and they (dealer) charged $40 to install. I could have maybe tried to put it in myself, but I've read a few stories about guys having to really crank to get them out so I didn't want to risk possibly breaking something.

You can get them for about $55 each and put them in yourself. It's not hard and you don't have to "crank" anything as long as you have a T-25 torx and about 20 minutes.

Where the stock 535 grilles are chrome on the leading edge of the slat and matte black on the sides, the M5's are gloss black / matte black.

In pictures, the gloss black makes them look much like the stock 535 grilles due to the reflection. In person, it looks much different.

On my pic here, you can see it a little better. There are still reflections, though.

i ordered M5 grilles and 3 times the left grille was different from the dealer. it has 10 fins instead of 12.

RambleJ 09-13-2012 07:39 PM

Looks OK, but if you have no other chrome on your car I'd go with the OEM all black.

Horses for courses.

Even with no other chrome, I do not like the all black look. To me, it looks like the grilles are missing.

BigDeep1 10-07-2012 05:23 AM

The M5 grille works on darker cars.

This horse also likes and respects the look of all black grilles. It looks all business and reminds me of decaf coffee.

For lighter color F10s, I was wondering how the 535i grille would look with the chrome ring blacked out.

mryakanisachoad 01-27-2013 06:06 PM

Has anyone with an M5 changed their grills to the 535 ones? lol

RambleJ 01-28-2013 08:50 AM

And I don't know if anyone noticed.. But the 'M5' grills are simply regular F30 grills

As in the same part #?? Wow. They definitely do have a similar look.

The F10 M5 grille style is the same style (chrome outer ring and black slats) that BMW has used on their 3-series (and others) since their first generation E21 in 1975. It looked more standard and similar to today starting with the E36 in 1990, and of course with the E46 starting in 1998.

To me the F10 M5 grille is a much more common traditional look. It still looks good on our F10 .

Btw, the only reason I know these details is from looking at Wikipedia. Lol.

LOL, good eye, didn't think about that!

I think IF it weren't the standard grille on the F10, the standard F10 grille would be the more "Interesting" of the two, since the M5 grille as you've basically pointed out can make it easier for one to mistake a 5 for a 3 from the front (though unlikely I guess as the general designs are very different).

BigDeep: I'm pretty sure they aren't the *exact* same grilles, i.e the shapes and sizes are different, though I think he meant the color scheming is the same.

Chuck W. 02-27-2013 05:54 PM

Everyone goes black & I go chrome. I put a set of 550 grills on.
