Which bolt - steering column
 
OK

Is it possible for anybody to include a photo of the actual bolt that requires loosening or removal to make the steering column on my 1987 535i collapse inwards as it is way too far out and uncomfortable steering with it just about under my chin!!!!!!! I have tried the slide control under the column but does allow for any movement for in or out?????

I don't know of any one particular bolt, but the lever under the column is the correct mechanism for adjusting the length of the column. Pull it all the way out and try working the column back and forth. It's probably stuck from rust or corrosion. Maybe some spray lube might help free it up. :dunno:

Hi, if you loosen that nut it will not help you with the steering wheel.
