X5 4.4i intermittently cutting out

I have a 2004 X5 4.4i that appears to intermittently lose electrical power when hot. The SatNav is the first to die, and then sometimes I get the DSC and ABS warning lights. This lasts only for a second or so. I have been told that it cold be the alternator overcharging. Any ideas?
