Refuse Delivery 2013 550i No Engine Update

Those of you you have a 2013 550i/550iX on order.

bubbahead 08-09-2012 08:41 AM

Were you promised the update?

I don't have one on order, just curious to see if people feel scorned. Hopefully BMWNA is watching and realize what this type of confusion does to sales.

I ordered my 550 Ix expecting it to be 400 hp. After which I was reading the forums. reading the Internet, and saw that there was a 445 hp vehicle that might be available. The only time I saw from BMW that there was going to be a 445 hp motor in my vehicle, was a couple of days ago on my BMW. So I would love to have the 445 motor, however I ordered the car expecting the 400HP.

AutoUnion 08-09-2012 09:04 AM

95% of the people who buy these cars can't tell the difference between 400 hp and 445 hp.

Mbbrewer 08-09-2012 09:19 AM

I ordered mine expecting 400 knowing that if it got the update it would be a bonus. I will still accept delivery.

bubbahead 08-09-2012 09:20 AM

I don't think there was 1 person who ordered one, was promised or even told an upgraded engine will be in the 2013. Everyone feeds off the internet... and I highly doubt anyone will cxl. lol

Nice looking car!

It is amazing how the horsepower numbers have grown. I would have thought that 400hp would be just fine. Compared to 10 year ago, the 528 is a very strong performer, never mind the 550. I can only imagine what will be available 10 years from now.

That's what they thought in the 50-60's as well, until the oil embargo in the 70's. We maybe reaching the apex of gasoline powered vehicles, who knows.

Forum members are far from typical buyers. Most people who buy these cars probably wouldn't know if it was a turbo or naturally aspirated.

Ace535i 08-09-2012 11:39 PM

Wait! I though turbo was a setting on my hair-dryer??

My dealer said he talked to BMW USA today and said yes 2013 550's will have the 440 hp engine. Told him it better.

Ace535i 08-10-2012 05:35 PM

Why would BMW make two versions of the N65 engine, and allocate it accordingly?

I don't see the cost savings nor the marketing strategy?

550iman 08-10-2012 06:04 PM

550i 2013

I called BMW of North America today. They confirmed that the 2013 550i will have 445hp!!!!!

I cancelled mine. Put it in Monday after BMW put the new engine specs up on their website. Cancelled Wednesday after they changed it back to the old one. I'll resubmit after they give a straight answer.

I may hold off just to get a look at the S6 though.

Makes one wonder if we are shopping at K-mart or Saks Fifth Avenue? Unglaublich!

christianfahey 08-10-2012 10:22 PM

To answer the question, no. More power/better mileage = bonus, not requirement.
I'm excited about the possibility of getting the newest tech. One thing we seem to know for sure (and I think it's a bad omen) is no Auto Stop/Start, correct? I'd be surprised if the put the new engine but not ASS in the 2013 550s.

That is correct, there's no auto stop/start on the MY13 550i....or at least mine does to have it.

I am curious about why it went back to 17/25 for fuel economy after it was dropped by the EPA last year to 15/23

cw5Bimmer 08-11-2012 07:07 AM

I think there's one thing we can all agree on...... there it's a different engine in the 2013 vs 2012. Based on the description and based on the mileage. I wonder ......You don't think they would intentionally throttle that engine down to 400 HP to not compete with the M5?

Maybe the M5 or the 6. I was going to order an M5 until I heard about the new motor in the 550. 445HP seemed like a good compromise, saved me 26K. Not sure what to do now. Told the CA i'd order if he could confirm the motor config, he's been trying for three days.

Someone else posted that their sticker said 20/25 MPG.

Cluster.

Stonehauler 08-11-2012 07:20 AM

I think that was a misread. 20 mpg combined is in a much bigger font than the 17/25 is, so it's easier to miss

P-TownM3 08-11-2012 10:38 AM

I ordered my car with the understanding that it would be the 400hp engine. It really does not matter to me since I am going Dinan Stage 2 anyways.
